Overall very sad and disappointed I spent $780 on a coloring job that didn’t look like my inspiration picture I showed the stylist. My recommendation is to look at the IG pages of the stylist and go with someone who has done work similar to what you have in mind. I worked with Shanan who was very kind and friendly but I don’t think the execution came out well as there were so many differences from my inspiration picture (see screenshot). I went in the first time on June 7 and paid $420 ($350 + $70 tip) only to lighten my hair as she said we should do it in steps to keep the integrity of my hair (last picture). She scheduled me to come back June 14 to complete the look and she put highlights in my hair and toned it for another $360 ($300 + $60 tip) I had mentioned many times I wanted the caramel/warm golden tones in the inspiration picture and that I didn’t want any highlights at the top of my head to look "too distinct" but more natural/grown in (maybe this would’ve been a balayage? Not sure) and she even said she’d do thinner highlights there to make it not as heavy. I don’t think this is what came out because the highlights still looked a little dense at the top of my head to me. When we finished I was trying to be open minded but I could tell the tone overall was much cooler than the inspiration and the top of my head was a cool tone but the under half of my head was warm. I didn’t think this was right but when I raised the concerns she said she used cooler tones to combat how much warmth I had in my hair and that I still have a lot of warmth in it. She did offer to retone it for me if I didn’t like it that much, but I had been there for 5 hours already and had to go. I felt unheard and would’ve liked the warmth and subtler root area highlights to begin with. Again, really kind, but sad to have paid so much money and not get what I asked for. I also got my hair cut the first time with Jeanica and she was also very kind and did a good job. Update: I asked for and received a refund for the highlighting service ($300). She was very understanding about the situation and quick to resolve.
Ruby is hands down the BEST! I have been going to her for years and followed her to Union South. I recently decided to change things up and went for a very complicated bleached ombre style from a very dark shade. She absolutely NAILED it, and I am over the moon ecstatic. She is careful, considerate, kind, and most importantly, a true expert with her craft. If I could leave more stars that 5 for Ruby, I would!!
Recently got my hair done with Kristin (@kolourkrissy) and she was amazing! She took the time, care, and effort to make sure I got the hair style that I wanted and made sure to follow up with me on hair products and maintenance. Having straight Asian hair that is thick and tends to get a little poofy, she really got me to trust her to know what style would work best for my hair while getting the style that I wanted. For anyone who is getting a cut or color done, I HIGHLY recommend getting your hair done by Kristin!
I wish I could say I had a great experience at this salon, as it isn’t the first time I have left the salon feeling like I was unsatisfied and disappointed with my results. I went in for a consultation and strand test to see if Union could handle my color correction needs. During the consultation, they tested a small section of hair on the back of my head. They left the product on for only five minutes, blow-dried it without using foil, and the result was a brassy orange. That alone didn’t leave me feeling very confident, but I decided to move forward because they assured me they could fix my color. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped. The stylist who did the consultation (stylist #1) told me she wasn’t available, so they scheduled me with another stylist (stylist #2) I had never met. I’m leaving names out for anonymity. I was asked to pay a $100 deposit to book the appointment, and they quoted me $750 for the color correction. I understand that stylist #2 runs her own business and has her own pricing structure, but this price was still much higher (almost double?than what i ended up paying at a very reputable salon that delivered amazing results (almost got my whole head to platinum blonde which was very deceiving due to the test strand being orange but i assume it was because of their odd and unprofessional process of going about my test strand) Despite my hesitations, I decided to trust the process and move forward. On the day of my appointment, stylist #2 had to cancel due to the fires in the area, which was completely understandable given the circumstances. However, the rescheduling process was frustrating. Stylist #2’s only available times conflicted with my school schedule, and the next opening wasn’t for another month. Having already paid the $100 deposit, I felt stuck, as I’d planned my schedule around the original appointment and now faced a long wait for a solution. To their credit, stylist #2 reached out three days later and refunded my deposit, which I appreciated. I also understand that circumstances beyond their control can happen. However, the overall experience—from the consultation process to the lack of flexibility in rescheduling—left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. While I respect that stylist #2 is running her own business and has her own pricing and policies, the lack of communication and the difficulty in accommodating my schedule made this experience a challenging one. I’m glad I got my deposit back, but I wouldn’t return to this salon. There are other places that provide better communication, more reasonable pricing, and an overall smoother experience.
I had such a great experience with Kristin! She was kind, friendly, and approachable right from the start, which instantly made me feel comfortable. She truly takes her time to get things right--her attention to detail is amazing, and I couldn't be happier with my haircut. Kristin really listens and is very accommodating to what you need. She also shared some great tips on how to style my hair, which I really appreciated. I'm so glad to have found a stylist I can return to, and I'm already looking forward to my next appointment with her 🙂 Highly recommend!
I don’t usually leave reviews, but my experience with Jasmin at Union Salon South was so shockingly bad, I feel obligated to warn others. From the moment I walked in, her attitude was beyond rude — no greeting, no effort, and a complete lack of basic respect. She acted like she didn’t want to be there and made it very clear she didn’t want to deal with me. The way she spoke to me was condescending and dismissive, and I’ve never felt so uncomfortable in a salon before. It's honestly embarrassing that Union Salon South hires people like this. Jasmin has no sense of professionalism, no people skills, and definitely no business working in a client-facing role. If you care at all about how you're treated, avoid her — and honestly, I’d think twice about the salon altogether if they think this kind of behavior is acceptable.
I had an amazing cut and style with Kristin this past weekend. I have always had good experiences with Union Salon South, and after my original hair stylist moved away I have tried a variety of different stylists here and have always been happy with my results. But Kristin goes above and beyond, giving tips and tricks about haircuts -- and even volunteered to help a curly hair girl like me learn how best to leave my hair curly or straighten it. She even gave me some clips to take home to try to replicate her blow dry! The cut she gave me is stylish and fresh, and I absolutely love it. I will be going back to see her next time!
