Unlimited classes, typically with a coupon so you can get 3 months for $99. 90 minute classes with a small group where you talk A LOT and homework to hold you accountable for studying between classes. I've been taking classes (typically 1-2 per week) and I'm amazed at how much I've learned. I highly recommend to anyone looking to learn Spanish.
I started attending classes ~5 months ago at level 1. I start level 4 next week. The classes are a great compliment to my study regimen, especially since the Mango app does not address grammar fundamentals in great detail. The instructors are amazing, especially Gloria and Rolando!! My fellow students from across the globe are equally amazing. Depending on several factors (level, class time, day of the week, etc), my class size has been a total of 2 students up to 9 at times. I’ve been lucky to see familiar faces each week. While not required, I recommend taking classes in order if possible because we review homework from the week prior. Unless you’re familiar with the content, you’ll be unable to participate for a small portion of the class. I also recommend printing the book to take notes although there is a web-based and PDF version. A black and white, double-sided book with a 360 degree coil cover costs about $31 from Staples. Adding tabs on the side is helpful! I also recommend purchasing the QuickStudy laminated reference guide (Spanish Fundamentals 1). I have about 5 others from this line, but I’ve found that this particular one contains about 90% of the concepts covered in our books thus far( comparatives, superlatives, reflexive pronouns, DOP, IOP, etc) in a consolidated location. I look forward to continuing my journey here and have nothing but positive things to say about my experience.
I just finished my Beginners course with Nick and it was great! The quality of material we learned was perfect for a beginners course. The instructor always made the class feel comfortable participating, and the class environment was very encouraging of success. I am already signed up for the next level and am excited to continue with Berges!
I started here a few years ago in level 3 after having taken Spanish in college nearly 20 years before that. After a break and a class or 2 at another Spanish institute, I returned here because of their straight-forward, no nonsense approach to language learning. I'm now at level 5 and have enjoyed learning from my teacher (who will remain anonymous so that hopefully his/her class won't become too overcrowded). Since the prices are affordable, I plan to continue after this class by taking a conversation class. My confidence in speaking continues to grow and I find myself speaking to Spanish in my head without even meaning to. I highly recommend Berges to learn Spanish.
I am always trying to improve my Spanish and I have taken a lot of classes over the years. Taking a class at Berges Institute was a great experience. They are professional and well organized and Rolando was one of THE BEST Spanish teachers I have ever had. He was dynamic, explained things well and conducted the class completely in Spanish. My Spanish improved more in the last 10 weeks than it had in quite a while. I highly recommend!
Great place to learn Spanish in NYC. Groupon gives you a great discount for level 1. I am almost finished with Level 1, and I found my teacher, Maria C., to be a wonderful maestro (teacher). The classes are small, which I appreciated, and she made the content engaging. There's also a variety of class times, so it can work with any schedule. Every class we had to speak and participate, which helps alot in getting over the fear of learning a new language in general. All the staff members are very nice, and helpful. I would totally recommend it. Pricing goes up for the additional levels, but it's worth it, if you plan to take it seriously.
I have to be honest, my first class and impression of Berges was not good. My teacher Alexandra was about an hour late. Additionally she was not teaching the class like a beginner class. I was under the impression that this class was for absolute beginners. I have never taken a spanish class before including in high school. I was looking for a teacher to be going slowly and at the beginning most of the class to be in English. That was not the case with Alexandra. She was speaking Spanish mostly, and I was incredibly overwhelmed and felt like the class was completely over my head. I reached out to Berges and the way they handled my complaints was incredibly professional. I truly felt like they cared about getting me in the right class. Fast forward to being in Jennifer's class. She teaches how I expected the class to be. She takes her time, I make plenty of mistakes, but I'm not scared to make a mistake in front of the class. It feels very non-judgmental. I have a learning disorder that makes learning a second language a bit harder than most, but I feel like Berges really takes all different learning styles into consideration. I also really feel like I am learning.
