I came in for a blowout and this was hands down the best blowout I’ve ever had in California for my 3C/4A curly hair. I walked out with the most beautiful curls and feeling so confident in myself. Postpartum has not been easy, and earlier this year I went to a salon that left my hair incredibly damaged. It was devastating because my hair is something I can’t hide. Coming here and being treated with so much care, kindness, and professionalism truly meant everything to me. These ladies made me feel seen and accepted. You can tell they genuinely care and put their heart into their work — which is so rare to find. The owner is incredibly sweet and even offered pastelitos and water to make the experience that much better. I absolutely love this place and will be coming back. If you have curly hair and are looking for a salon that truly understands and respects it, this is it.

From the moment I walked into NY Dominican I felt genuinely welcomed. The staff offered coffee and snacks, which immediately created a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. The space felt comfortable and inviting. My stylist listened carefully and delivered exactly what I wanted. The manicure and pedicure were done with great attention to detail, cleanliness, and care. Everything felt unhurried and professional. What could have been a routine visit turned into a pleasant and refreshing experience. I recommend this salon to anyone seeking quality hair and nail services in a warm, welcoming setting.

My purpose in posting this review is not to bash this business, but to share my honest personal experience. My appointment for a silk press was on 9/4/25. I wanted to wait until my next wash day to write my review so I could see how my hair lasted and give a proper review. I’ll start by saying that this salon uses A LOT of high temperature heat for their silk presses. I was uncomfortable at some points but I did let them know whenever I felt it was too hot and they adjusted the dryer. This salon uses great, high quality products which I love. However, I don’t feel my hair was properly conditioned. It seemed as if the conditioner wasn’t left on my hair for even 2 minutes. After leaving the salon, my hair had a burnt/chemical smell. To this day, even after washing, my hair still has the smell which is unfortunate. Upon washing my hair myself, I noticed that my curls were a lot looser, limp, and lacking elasticity, which was not the case prior to my visit to this salon. Unfortunately, I think I suffered some heat damage from the service I received at this salon. I have natural type 4 hair that I occasionally straighten. I did already have some looser pieces in the front of my hair prior to visiting this salon but overall my curls were very healthy and tight. If you’re someone who’s natural and cares about maintaining their curls, I’d say visit this salon with caution as they use very high temperature heat that could potentially damage your curls. I understand they use the Dominican method to straighten hair but I prefer other methods that don’t jeopardize the health of my curls. They did use a lot of product, which they assured me was heat protectant, but unfortunately it was not enough for my hair to not be damaged. The amount of product also weighed my hair down and gave it a greasy appearance. Although I’m not the happiest with my experience, I give the salon 2.5 stars because it’s beautiful, clean, the products they use are a great brand, and everyone seems very nice. The price is decent ($80 for the silk press with no add ons). I personally would not go back because I want to maintain my curls. However if you’re interested in trying them it may be worth it for you, just keep in mind there’s a lot of heat involved. Thanks for reading!

I came from Ny - Fl - CA and even in Fl I couldn’t find anyone to do my hair like the Dominicans in NY. So when I came to California, I was on a SEARCH. I found NY Dominican and haven’t looked back since !!! They do my wash and set and make sure my hair is fire before I leave. I have been about 1.5 years with no perm and my hair still looks good. They handle all hair types. I have never had a problem with any of them and to be honest, I look at them like family. I literally will go weeks and if I can’t make it to them, I will let no one else touch my hair. They are affordable ! They are talented ! They do all hair types. I will forever be coming to them ! And I will bring my twin girls when they become of age because no one else is going to our hair like them. Love you guys !!

From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming atmosphere, making me feel right at home. The salon is beautifully decorated, with a modern yet cozy vibe that instantly puts you at ease. I went in for a simple wash and blowout, but what really impressed me was how the stylists took the time to understand my hair and its needs. They asked questions about my routine and offered personalized advice, which I greatly appreciated. One thing they really emphasized was the importance of maintaining hair health from the inside out. They recommended a specific brand of hair growth vitamins that they swear by for promoting stronger, longer hair. They explained how these vitamins, paired with their specialized treatments, could help improve my hair’s overall health and stimulate growth. As someone who has struggled with thinning hair and slow growth in the past, I was intrigued but also a little skeptical. The stylist reassured me that these vitamins had helped many of their clients, especially when used consistently alongside their treatments.

As a New Yorker who lives in Cali, spending my time in the salon was a right of passage. This place feels like home. Everyone was super nice! And my hair looks and feels amazing. I also brought my daughter for her first experience. She was scared of everything, but she loves the way her hair looks. It’s long and healthy again. We will be back!
