My favorite place to get my hair cut and colored in NYC. Reasonable prices! They take great care and are so attentive to detail. Fantastic blonde color + balayage. Charles was fantastic. Thank you!

My hairdresser is awesome. Been with him for 30 years! The salon is so meh. The owner just doesn’t care about the little details: no paper towels in the bathroom. We have to wipe our hands with Kleenex facial tissues; the trash can doesn’t work. You have to lift the lid with your hands. Most infuriating at all—my hairdresser is the only one that works on Sunday. So, I come on Sundays. And the owner doesn’t bother to tell the building owner to turn on the heat on Sundays. So all the clients are left freezing. I don’t know if it’s apathy, stinginess or both. But it’s just not client friendly.

I came to Layers after a great recommendation from a friend, and received the worst haircut of my life. I showed Charles reference photos and was very specific with what I wanted - a blunt cut with no thinning out, very minimal long layers, cutting off 2.5 inches (my hair was several inches past my collarbone). What I received was a shoulder length, shaggy, heavily layered and thinned out, point cut bob. I barely have enough hair left to put in a ponytail. It looks bad enough that I’ve resigned to wearing it up until I can cut off the ends. Do NOT come here unless you like your hair very layered and thinned out, or unless you’re prepared to be extremely assertive about your cut (in my opinion, you shouldn’t have to be prepared to tell a stylist to stop what they’re doing mid cut, and I certainly wasn’t…). Charles did a good job with my face framing pieces, but the rest of my hair is ruined for months.

I looooooove this salon. I've been coming here for yearsssss, back when they were at a different location across the street. They are so great at hair styling. The level of artistry and precision that goes into each haircut is unmatched. The pricing is super fair especially in the city where everything seems to be unreasonably overpriced. They also wash and style your hair. They're easy to correspond with, I just text them when I want to come in. I've sent countless friends here who visit Charles regularly for haircuts, glosses, you name it. They are just awesome. I love this place and they deserve all the business.

I absolutely love this hair salon! Living in the area, it’s so convenient to book an appointment quickly. The salon is always clean, and I wish I remembered my stylist’s name because he’s amazing! He’s so calm and gives the best scalp massage while washing my hair—it’s pure relaxation. I’ve been here three times already, and every time, I leave loving my blowout. I’m getting a haircut soon, and I can’t wait!

Just got about 2’ off. They did a wonderful job. I loveeeee it! Everyone here is really sweet. They have a variety of small snacks and drinks when you arrive and take time with your individual needs. Really amazing!

Perfectionism is what you want in a hair colorist and hair stylist. That's exactly what you get when working with Charles. I've been lucky enough to maintain what I can even in between being laid off from work and being tight on cash (luckily they offer a discount when paying with cash!). Thank you for your expertise and honesty over the years. It's been a joy to work with the entire staff as soon as I enter the door. I'm going to miss everyone! Thank you for your blessing.
