I have been coming to Hair International for over four years and have always had an excellent experience! I’ve always been impressed with the remarkable quality of service and the patient demeanor of this family-owned establishment. I’ve also been astonished with how many clients and their children have been coming here for 25 years or more. I give them a totally verified 5 star rating. Anyone who is new to Cambridge, Somerville, Medford, Arlington, or Belmont - I always tell them that one of the best kept secrets is this little gem 💎 Get a great haircut without breaking the bank! Open every day but Sunday.

I recently moved and have tried over 10+ salons. Hair International has to be my number 1 choice in terms of speed, affordability, and hospitality. Susie is a sweetheart, and she is a pro at cutting hair. The place also has a great atmosphere. Can't recommend enough.

ORIGINAL REVIEW (3/18/2024): PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE AVOID THIS LOCATION FOR YOUR HAIRCUT AT ALL COSTS. Never in my life have I ever received this bad of a haircut. During my visit, I was insulted in multiple ways, from being told that the back of my head is too flat for my original hairstyle, to being told that I am balding, to then being told that I have a big head. Then, when I asked for a slight revision to the "finished" haircut, I was given attitude and the barber kept complaining that her original cut was perfectly sufficient. At the end, she did not show me the back of my head, and just handed me a mirror and told me to look for myself. After leaving, I now realize why, as the back of my head has been completely BUTCHERED. In the back, the bottom section of my hair has been trimmed to what looks like a partial fade, but then the middle and top parts have not been cut at all, so there is an awkward transition from a very short section of hair to an extremely long section. During my visit, I was reassured that the person cutting my hair has been doing so for nearly 30 years, but now, it looks more like she's only been cutting for 30 minutes, and as if I am her first-ever client. I originally came here because I thought a $20 cut was a lot more reasonable than what I usually pay ($35), but the decision to cheap out is now my biggest regret. Please try to avoid this place if possible, unless you want this as your outcome. At this point, I'm not even sure how to proceed. Extremely disappointed and upset. UPDATE (3/19/2024): The following day, I returned to Hair International to ask if they could fix my haircut from the day prior, but was met with more insults and an unwillingness to help. After seating me back down, the same hairdresser attempted to revise the haircut (even though I had asked for someone else) and continued to insult me, calling me fat and saying that the reason my hair was cut that way was to compliment the odd structure of the back of my head. As if this was not humiliating enough, she then proceeded to poke at my head and instructed my friend to do the same, insisting that there was a lump on my head which was causing the hair to look off. When I explained that the hair looked uneven even outside of that region, she complained that photos are not an accurate indicator of hairstyle and that it's unreasonable to expect a perfect haircut. She insisted that it was my fault that my head looked bad, and directly stated that I looked "ugly" the day before and that she had helped provide me with a "beautiful" haircut, which I was being unappreciative of. Throughout this entire time, I had remained silent to try and not be rude, but the continuous streams of insults were simply too much. This later continued into her inviting a random stranger who had just sat down to judge my hair, asking them if my hair looked okay and continuing to mention how I had "fat" in the back of my head and had originally come in with ugly and long hair. It was not until I spoke up and mentioned that I remained unsatisfied that she offered a refund. Ultimately, she ended our interaction by insisting that I need to learn to be kind (when I had been silent for a majority of the interaction and haircut) AND after putting me through two days of repeated insults and attacks to my personal looks. This is the worst interaction I have ever had at a hairdresser and I will never be returning. The attitude, quality of service, and insults are not normal, and the shop should be ashamed of treating their clientele like this.

Update: the Vietnamese owners don’t treat returning customers with same patience. And they treat white males best. If a white male coming while they are working on you, they call it finished on you. Please bring proper amounts cash as they are cash only and don’t give any charges back Previous experience: Reasonable price to tame curly Asian hair. My hair becomes nicer one month after the hair cut. Eye brow design is available at $12.

I had a great experience at Haircut International! They accept walk-ins, so it’s super convenient, but be prepared for a bit of a wait during busy hours (Probably call the place if you are unsure). That said, it’s totally worth it! Suzie, the owner and barber, is an absolute gem! She's is incredibly kind and welcoming. She takes her time to listen what you want and give a great haircut, and the prices are very reasonable.

The 2 sisters are the sweetest. My daughter cut her hair here through childhood into adolescence. They were kind and easy, cut very well & never overcharged. It's been awhile because we moved, but I recommend them to everyone.
