Xcellent Hair Plaza truly exceeded our expectations. My sister used to go to Daniel when he worked on Long Island, so when my daughter had a major hair mishap and urgently needed color correction, we knew exactly who to call. Daniel worked absolute miracles. He corrected her color beautifully, and my daughter left feeling confident and happy with her hair again. While we were there, I decided to get a process color to even out the tones in my own hair, followed by a blow dry. I loved the results so much that even though the salon is an hour away from me, I’m already going back this week for another blow dry. My sister also used to get balayage with Daniel, and her color was always beautiful. If you want to see examples of his work, you can check out his Instagram page @xcellenthairplaza_daniel, where he shares many samples of his coloring and styling results. The talent, professionalism, and results are well worth the trip. I highly recommend Excellent Hair Plaza and Daniel to anyone looking for incredible color work and styling.
I love coming here because of the great prices and beautiful work they do. This is my third time coming and even though I hate making the trek from Brooklyn to Queens, I do it because it is worth it. I have received a keratin treatment in the past and my hair was so smooth and silky for a good two months. This past time I asked for them to retouch my roots and get me a little more blonde and they were able to do it. Note that you will have multiple stylists working on your hair and that good work takes time!!! The area the hair salon in is great, the walk to the train is not too far. They do get busy so I highly suggest making an appointment, especially if you’re someone like me who is going to need about six hours to get their hair done.
I have nothing but compliments for the salon! This is my first time with the salon and I came into the appointment looking for an ash blonde balayage. Given the state of my hair (very grown in & dyed brown twice about 3/4 months ago), I either had to sacrifice the health of my hair or compromise with another color. Booking the appointment was very easy, the phone number linked to the salon responded extremely fast. When I came in, I was immediately seated for my consultation. They told me exactly what I expected. Daniel showed me a previous ash blonde balayage he did and told me he could get me to a similar color but darker. I was extremely happy and proceeded with the appointment. Through the entire 5 hours, it was very clear to me that the stylists were extremely professional and knowledgeable. There was also someone checking in on my hair and letting me know that the color would be darker than the image. When my hair was finally done, it looked just like the inspo picture. I was so happy!! One more note, I understand a lot of people get concerned when stylists speak in their native language but for the entire 5 hours I was here, I only heard them ask for hair toners and other hair requests.
Getting haircuts is hard for me because I have too much hair and hairdressers either take too much or too little and there is no shape. This layered haircut was exactly what I asked for and the level of care was great. First picture is after the blowdry Second is a few weeks after, hair after waking up
I’m genuinely not the type to leave bad reviews, but this was the most disappointing, devastating, and frustrating hair salon results I have ever received. I communicated with the stylists that I wanted a pink color with a soft root, providing photos to ensure accuracy. They said they would be able to do it and when we got to the strand test of pink, it was looking good and I approved it since it was appearing pink. After processing, my hair was getting washed and I came out with extremely purple hair. As the stylist asked if I liked the color, I was confused and expressed that I thought it would be pink to which he said that the pink just didn’t last and maybe the purple will fade after a few washes. I was extremely confused from where the purple even came from and he said that he just hoped I liked this color. It seemed like they couldn’t do anything to salvage the color to what I wanted, so I just lied that I liked it and it was fine, so we could just finish the rest of the appointment. I tried to convince myself that it looked good and maybe it was even my fault despite showing reference photos and saying the word "pink" several times. Yet, it just wasn’t what I wanted at all especially since I find cool colors especially purple to look bad on me and now it was all over my entire head. Being so extremely disappointed and confused, I just paid and even tipped (purely out of the physical service), because I didn’t want to make a scene or lash out. Although the physical service itself was good, I was extremely devastated after the entire thing as it was not close to the color I asked for. I ended up fixing the color myself right after the service, because I absolutely never want to go back to this salon in my life ever again. As I cannot get my money back, I would at least like to warn anyone who is thinking about going to this salon.
This was my first time at this salon, and I called twice beforehand to ask about the different types of hair treatments and prices. The front desk girl didn’t seem interested in explaining much — she just said there are "different treatments with different costs" and that they’d explain more once I got there. When I arrived, I decided to do a "hot oil" hair treatment. She told me it was one of their best options, so I agreed. The girl who actually did the treatment was nice and did her job well. However, the treatment lasted about 20 minutes, they washed my hair sprayed some something like milky in color and washed it again , and that was it. I asked, "What about the hot oil part?" The front desk girl then said, "Oh, since you have colored hair, we don’t use hot oil because it could damage it." Really? She had already checked my hair type and length before starting — this should’ve been explained before the treatment began. When it came time to pay, the front desk girl showed me a brochure that was entirely in Chinese. I asked for an English version, but she didn’t have one. An older gentleman tried to justify everything, but at that point I was done listening. $100 for a 25-minute oil treatment — definitely not worth it. Poor communication, no transparency, and unprofessional service. Please avoid this place.
1st time I came to this hair salon I got a haircut only and I was satisfied. This 2nd time coming I wanted to get a balayage. I came in at 5pm Friday asking for a balayage and was told I couldn’t get it today as it was late and it required 6-7hours. I totally understood but I had a party next day I was hosting and really wanted to do something about my hair so I asked if I could get only 1 color service instead. I had medium/dark brown hair and I wanted to go lighter so I said light brown. I even showed them a inspo picture and said they can do it no problem. They bleached my whole head and after I was told they were adding the brown color. It was closing time by then and I’m not sure they rushed it and didn't keep the color long enough but when they washed and dried it was still very golden yellow. It was pretty late and I was the last person there i convinced myself it was ok and looked good even though i knew that was no light brown color. He asked me if I liked I said it was just too light still and he offered to add a toner to darken it I said yes please thinking it would be better now and by then other staff had gone home only the lady who washed hair was still there and the colorist I know she wanted to leave already and looked a little bothered she had to wash my hair again but still was nice to me I felt bad it was getting late by then so when toner was washed out it was just a tad darker but no brown hair at all. I just had to wanted to leave too and not hold them up anymore said I liked it and paid $295 plus tipped the colorist and the lady that had stayed extra time had went home already since my hair still needed to get blow dried but I still left a tip with the cashier for her. Overall I wouldn’t go back for hair coloring now my hair is so dry from the bleach. I could not show up to my party the next day like that I added a brown color depositing conditioner that same night it toned down a bit but I will need to get my hair fix elsewhere. 1st pic is the inspo 2nd & 3rd bleached hair 4th pic right after leaving the salon 🙁 To me looks like no color was added
