This was a great experience. We were able to come here after after dinner. They have a huge variety of food, furniture and services. The staff here were very friendly and professional. There is a huge shared parking lot right outside. Everything inside is clearly labeled. I am looking forward to going back again soon!
Tons of variety, fresh produce, fish, and meat! It is very crowded, just about all the time, but it is a pretty good market if you are looking for just about anything. There are a few shops "outside" the checkout area as well.
Kam Man is one of the longest running Asian grocery stores surviving and evolving in the ever changing Boston demographic. Many many years ago Quincy had almost no Asian population except the Yees family and a few others. Forty years later it has 29% of its population Asian decent. Kam Man and the now closed Super 88 chain were the large scale pioneers opened to meet the needs of this robust community. It carries everything from groceries to cooked food to everyday goods. It even has a travel agent and a bank sitting in the same spot. With the continuous push from younger and more vocal generations of Asian residents, now Quincy have more Asian grocery stores operating. The competition is fierce, the price is great for shoppers, and Kam Man is carrying on its legend.
Asian markets come in all shapes and sizes with many having a particular focus (e.g., Korean, Chinese, Japanese, etc.). Kan Man successfully tries to cover the gamut. One example is the 5 aisles of rice covering most Asian varieties and brands. This market is probably the biggest, well stocked and "organized" in the greater Boston area. The meats department with a real butcher counter is quite impressive as is the produce section. If you can’t find it here, chances are you need to source it online. Be sure to bring your own grocery bags, and a shopping list that includes the asian character spellings…
Went to the bakery and brought usual stuff like pork sung, cream corn, fried dumpling and sesame balls with red bean paste. When my wife ate the sesame ball, a plastic like substance was stashed inside the red bean paste. We call management and quickly got a refund. But the damage is done. We would never buy stuff in the bakery store again. The food is dirty and they not only raise their price but serve out an contaminated product to the customers. The bakery taste good but it's not worth it to get food poisoning from their lack of food safety.
My go to asian grocery in east MA. It has most of the things i need for asian food, staples. They have indomie, kecap manis, kecap asin cap angsa, some boemboe dapur. Good selection of fresh produce, bakery is a star in my opinion. Loved it.. They dont use preservatives im sure as in around 1 week the bread went stale and moldy at room temp which is how its supposed to be. Good vietnamese food stall inside and kimbab stall..
Beware if you have any aversion to smells as the meat section is putrid. Lots of meat sitting out and bins unrefrigerated. I go there generally to buy inexpensive meat stuff to make dog food but last time I went the chicken legs I bought turned out to be extremely bad, probably from sitting in their own ecoli for God knows how long. All other sections of the market are good including produce, frozen, hot sauces, noodles, teas and other items. What is hidden at an American supermarket in the meat section is right out in the open at your Asian markets. Enough to turn your stomach and make you want to be a vegetarian. 🤢
