GW Supermarket

This is the cleanest and most organized Asian grocery I’ve been to! No fishy smell, everything is neat and well-arranged. It’s not huge, but they have everything you need — totally recommend it! 💕🛍️

I‘ve had a couple bad experiences with them. One, I tried to take a drink back that my son got. He didn’t feel good after he drank about half so we looked for the expiration date. It was expired but the old asian lady outright refused. She continues to tell me that was a "manufactured date" that’s how China does it. I told her NO in America there are sometimes 2 dates, a "manufacturer date" and a "best by" date. If there is only 1 date it’s the "best by date" my son drank it and said it tasted off that’s why he check the date. We went back and forth but she wouldn’t budge. Secondly, l bought persimmons about 5-6 weeks ago and when I was picking them they were a deep orange and be try soft. I wasn’t sure exactly what was wrong. The next day I went to cut one and it was sooooo mushy. It fell apart in my hand as iI was peeling it. The persimmons were previously frozen! Yuck. I had to throw all of them out. I had a second encounter with Persimmons I bought last week they were beautiful on the outside, a bright orange and firm. It was either $4 or $5 a lb. I got 6 persimmons that cost me $10.50. A couple days later I cut them for the family and they had brown spots all over them. I thee out most of them. I mean, they won’t take it back anyway. If I were you I would make sure the quality is good and as you want them. They don’t do take backs. Customers always wrong. .

This is a great store for getting Chinese items like noodles, tofu, tofu skin etc. They also have a large variety of vegetables which are fresh and reasonably priced. The store is very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. This branch is as big as a Costco with comparable variety. They have another branch also on Fredrick road but about 6 miles south in the Rockville area. A bit smaller but equally well stocked.

The store has a good variety of produce (e.g., gai lan, bok choy, milk tips, bitter melon) and bins are restocked frequently. Prices for Western producee and non perishables tends to be higher priced and can be purchased at other stores for better price. Others have commented about the cashiers. There is a cashier I prefer to conduct my purchase with. She is polite and will help if you tell her you are looking for an item. The seafood department is hit or miss. I recently asked if they barramundi. The man I spoke told me there was no such fish. Fortunately,I knew that the fish exists - it's just not at this store. The butcher department lowered the rating for the store. A request for a smaller cut of meat was met with yelling "no" and throwing the meat back in the tray. In response I didn't raise my voice and simply said "thank you". Further, he began talking to his colleague about me as I walked away. Was my request unreasonable? No. Was I treated Respectfully or with dignity? No. Fortunately, there are other international markets in the Germantown Gaithersburg area that will welcome a regular customer.

Has a fresh fish market and some unique fruits. Great prices although maybe you should wash the vegetables you buy here a few extra times.

Great selection. I just wish there was an English version and some detail for every item for non Chinese. Just a wish. I know it is difficult. If I open an ethnic grocery store, I would focus on that, and have tremendous impact on sales from other ethnicities.

This is the 2nd location for this supermarket in Montgomery county (that i know of) it's a really good Asian supermarket, what i do not like about Rockville location is that it is always very crowded and parking is limited, very congested. In Germantown parking is plentiful, rarely super crowded, very comfortable to shop.
