Eric D. Challgren, MD

Dr Challgren is an excellent dermatologist. I have been a patient of his for several years and have never had an issue. He has performed multiple procedures on me and I have been completely satisfied. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a quality dermatology provider in Raleigh.

Dr. Challgreen has always been super nice ,very thorough and easy to talk to . He and his staff are first class ,professional and courteous! My family highly recommends Dr. Challgren and Southern Dermatology!

First: Dr. Challgren is a very nice man and, as far as I know, a good dermatologist. However, according to his office staff, "The doctors have no idea how much things cost the patient or how procedures are charged. So you can't depend on them to give you any information on that." In the current world of high deductibles and self-paying patients, doctors like Dr. Challgren need to get a clue. I was just in for a check-up. The Dr. suggested that I have a small pre-cancerous spot removed. Fine. I asked him to look at a second place that itches occasionally. "It's benign, but I can hit that while we are at it." Sure. On check out, I was charged 50% more for the benign spot than the the other one. Why so much? "Well, we remove benign legions in groups. That's the charge to remove up to 5 benign spots", I'm told. Sooo... A. I wasn't aware I was going to be charged at all to "hit that one while we are it" and B. If I had known, I would have had 4 more similar spots removed! That's when she told me that the doctors don't know how things are charged and that "No...they don't have time to take me back and zap 4 more spots." And further, "as a self-pay patient, I should have asked." Um...Why would I ask..."Hey, am I going to be billed the same amount for up to 5 removals?" Who thinks to ask that?
