Alicia Stark, ARNP, is simply wonderful. I was referred by my PCP for an abnormal mole and proceeded through the process of a biopsy. Alicia is knowledgeable, skilled, compassionate and approachable, making my experience so much better than it could have been. I have an anxiety disorder and big time "white coat syndrome". Alicia has just the right combination of smarts and humanity for someone like me, and everyone I encountered at Mercer Island Dermatology was professional and kind. I expected the results of my biopsy to take 5-7 days, however, Alicia Stark called me herself just a couple of days after my appointment to tell me that my results were in and the news was good. Highly recommend this clinic!

I am writing this after completing a consult for a laser treatment. Over the phone, I was told they offer a periorbital laser treatment to reduce the appearance of veins on my face, however, I would need to come in for a consult prior to my treatment. Upon arriving for my consult, the NP who saw me said "those veins have a purpose, I don’t know if they should be treated with a laser". She then explained I would need to schedule an appointment with the laser specialist to determine if they could provide the treatment. I ended up paying a hundred something dollar consultation fee, just to be told they didn’t know if it could be done. I assumed that was the whole purpose of the consultation. I also had to wait forever at my appointment to be seen. I decided not to return, since I didn’t want to pay hundreds more just to be told they can’t provide the treatment that they said was offered. I ended up finding another clinic in Seattle who specialized in this treatment and was able to answer all of my questions upon the initial consult. While the staff were polite, I would give Mercer Dermatology 1 star due to their lack of transparency on treatments/price, and the quality of the consult I received. I can’t recommend spending money for a consult that doesn’t even clarify if they can do the treatment.

I can’t say enough good things about my experience with this Mercer Island Dermatology, especially Dylan Nelson, the most amazing Practice Manager. After a concern arose following one of my visits, Dylan handled the situation with the utmost professionalism, care, and urgency. She truly went above and beyond to make sure I felt heard and supported. Thanks to Dylan’s prompt attention, she was able to get me in quickly to see Dr. Hughes, who was also willing to fit me on her crazy schedule (thank you Dr. Hughes!). The level of service and genuine care I received from both Dylan and Dr. Hughes turned what was a stressful situation into a positive experience. I highly recommend this practice to anyone looking for exceptional dermatological care!

Front desk person was so rude , then I was put in a room at 2:00, my appointment time. Waited 40 mins , in a napkin that kept ripping and it was cold. I finally walked out.

My first experience with MID & it was good (reason for star deduction at the end). Scheduling was easy and I was able to get an appointment within a week because of a cancellation. Dr. Hughes personally greeted me and gave me a hug so that was welcoming. She got right down to business and was so helpful, considerate & knowledgeable of treatments that I felt heard for the first time in a long time when it comes to my skin issues. I am looking forward to working with her going forward and seeing the results of her treatment. My only complaint is with the parking - or lack thereof. All of the spots within the building are reserved for other offices in the building so you can only park on the street which is up a hill and limited. There should be at least a few spots for MID.

Pushy and Sales-Driven — Not Recommended for Medical Care This visit happened a while back when I had just moved to Seattle. Now that I’ve gained more experience with local clinics and understand how things typically work, I want to share my negative experience as a warning to others. I came in for acne treatment. Even with insurance, I was charged around $240 total—including $190 for the office visit—while other reputable clinics I’ve used since typically charge $160 or less for the same service. During my first visit, they pushed me into a blood test to "qualify" for treatment, without clearly explaining the cost. I later had to pay $50 out of pocket, even though the same test would cost under $20 at an independent lab like Quest Diagnostics. Worse, they began initiating paperwork for Isotretinoin treatment right away after just a quick overview, without clearly asking for my consent. It felt like they were trying to funnel me into a long-term treatment plan (months of follow-ups, medication, and regular billing) without giving me proper time to decide. I had to push back and say no clearly to stop it. To top it off, the front desk insisted I pay on the spot before leaving, which felt unusually forceful—most clinics simply bill afterward. ⚠️ Bottom line: Be cautious. They may begin tests or applications without getting clear consent, then try to convince you once things are already underway. If you hesitate or ask questions, you may feel pressured to go along. This clinic seemed more focused on sales and upselling than on patient care. I wouldn’t return—and I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone seeking serious, trust-based medical treatment. As for other glowing reviews: yes, this clinic blends medical and cosmetic services, and that may satisfy people seeking standard skincare procedures. But if you’re expecting careful, ethical medical care, I strongly suggest you consider other options.

The Doctor is nice and knowledgeable. I am giving two stars however for the overall experience. I visited the clinic for laser hair treatment. The doctor said the laser treatment that they have is not for darker Asian skin. The lady on the phone had no clue I guess other than taking appointments that caused me $164 for the visit. I speak fluent English so there was no communication issue. I asked the question on laser hair treatment clearly and was told yes they provide the service. This is naive on part of the clinic to keep someone inexperienced to receive these calls and cost people money. This is a call out to all future customers to this clinic. Please be specific with your ask, reiterate multiple times and ensure the lady on the phone speaks to a nurse or Doctor directly before visiting the clinic. This will save you time, effort and money.
