Our daughter Amelie began seeing Dr. Shin before she was 2 years old. Since first seeing her for a cleaning, Amelie has been consumed with being a dentist. She watched the Sesame Street dentist episode numerous times and memorized the sequence of a typical cleaning and then acted it out on her stuffed animal patients' teeth routinely. Now 3, a whole year later, she continues to take pride in also brushing and flossing her own teeth as well as caring for those of her dolls and stuffed animals. We may just get our own DDS. Dr. Shin and her hygenists are great role models, and they show the utmost care and expertise at each visit. A big thank you from our future dentist and her parents 🙂 The Smiths

We were referred by a friend to Dr. Shin and we couldn’t be more pleased with our experience! From the beginning, the front office staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. They helped me with the paperwork process and were very flexible when we were running late. The office is bright, beautiful, and welcoming. My children were curious and excited the moment we walked in. Dr. Shin was very patient and kind with my toddler! The appointment never felt rushed which is rare. We are so happy we found this practice!

The staff we interacted with were exceptionally kind and patient, which helped make the visit a stress-free experience for my child. Dr. Shin is highly professional and personable. We are new to the practice and couldn’t ask for a better pediatric dentist!

We had a wonderful experience with Dr. Shin and appreciate her going out of her way to help us make an informed decision about whether or not we should pull our son’s tooth. The staff and everyone we met was so friendly and welcoming! And my son said he’s never going to another dentist again and it was the best!

My 2 year old daughter was made to feel very comfortable at her first visit with Dr Shin. Dr. Shin was very intentional with all of her efforts to make my daughter comfortable. Admittedly I was preparing myself for a difficult appointment but Dr. Shin did an amazing job making this as easy as could be. I was very impressed. Thank you Dr. Shin!

A Truly Exceptional Experience with Dr. Shin As a nurse with 17 years of experience in procedures and sedation, I’ve seen my fair share of medical scenarios, but Dr. Shin stands out as one of the best examples of what healthcare should be. My 22-month-old son had a traumatic fall that caused damage to his upper front teeth. Two local dentists recommended pulling the three remaining teeth out immediately, and were dismissive of the need for X-rays, insisting that a child of his age would never sit still for an X-ray and that delaying the extractions could harm his permanent teeth. The plan was to restrain him, inject lidocaine (which I know from personal experience is always painful), and pull the teeth out. I wasn’t comfortable with that approach. As a nurse who works with children, I’ve seen how painful procedures can create lasting fear of medical professionals, and I didn’t want that for my son. After exhausting other options, I found Dr. Shin and her team. From the moment we walked into her office, Dr. Shin’s approach was a breath of fresh air. She immediately engaged with my son, offering toys and creating a welcoming, trust-filled environment. Dr. Shin suggested taking an X-ray, which other offices had told me wasn’t possible with a toddler. It showed that while there was a small chance the teeth would need to come out later if future X-rays show a developing infection, it wasn’t urgent, and pulling all of them right away wasn’t necessary. I was relieved to hear there was time to consider our options. Dr. Shin explained that one tooth did, in fact, need to be removed soon. She laid out two options for us: The first option involved general anesthesia with an anesthesiologist, who comes to the office once a month. However, as a nurse who starts IVs in children, I know how traumatic receiving an IV can be for a child. The second option, which we chose, was a thoughtful and humane approach. Dr. Shin suggested giving my son a weight-based dose of midazolam, a mild sedative that made him relaxed and sleepy. This allowed him to accept nitrous oxide (laughing gas) with ease, further helping him relax. To minimize pain, she applied a topical numbing agent to his gums before any lidocaine was injected—a step no other office had considered. Thanks to this careful, methodical approach, my son remained calm and comfortable throughout the entire visit. There were no tears, and I’m pretty sure (especially since he could watch his favorite show on the ceiling from the procedural chair), he didn’t even realize the tooth had been pulled! Dr. Shin's compassion, skill, and dedication to providing the least traumatic experience possible for children are unparalleled. She took the time to ensure my son’s experience was as positive as it could be—focusing not just on the procedure but on his emotional and physical comfort. As a nurse who works with children undergoing medical procedures, I can tell you that it takes a special person to balance decisiveness with gentleness, and to be both quick and patient when necessary. Dr. Shin does all of that, and more. I can’t recommend her highly enough. She truly exemplifies the best of what pediatric dentistry can be.
