I known Tina for a long time , her staff and everyone do there best for the services they provide. Anytime I feel my muscles aching , a trip to Athena refreshes my body and mind to the point my stress leaves my mind.
If you are looking for a fantastic massage experience that is reasonably priced you must go to Athena spa. I have had hundreds of massages in my life and this ranks up at the top.
I have been going to this place for years and have even referred people there. I brought someone with me today and we both got massages. Each massage was $89. They were very good so we tipped them $20 each which is more than 20%. When we handed the therapists the tips, they both had very dissatisfied looks on their face and said to us that the tip should atleast $25. I could understand them being unhappy when you give 10% or 15%, but when you’re being tipped in a service industry more than 20% and you have the nerve to say something to a customer that you know has come there for years, it is really bad business. I can tell you, I won’t be going back and you certainly won’t be getting my referrals anymore.
Athena Spa is the best spa that I have ever been too! I have been a loyal client for years and will not let anyone touch my face but at Athena Spa! They give the best facials and massages. They are clean and professional. I recommend Athena Spa to all my friends and family! 5 stars!
Extremely rude staff. The lady who I always go to for my facial was literally so rude even though she left the cooling mask on my face for 30 mins even though it should be 10-15 mins out of the 1 hour time. All because she and her other colleague were trying to sell their products. Apparently this was a 2 person job. And this is not the first time this has happened, so this is just an excuse. When asked why she left me feeling claustrophobic for so long, "she said get your facial done by someone else next time." Not once but twice, and when asked the reason for that she quickly ran out. The quality of the facial has gotten worse and worse overtime. The quick massages that used to be included have completely disappeared. They talk so loudly and never close the doors to the room, which provides 0 privacy for the customer. The only reason to even go for the facial here was not because it was relaxing, but because she extracted well, that’s it! They get very unhappy if the tip they get is not what they desire as well. Overall, will never be going back. I cannot believe I have given this place my business for past 4 years despite the poor customer service from the facial aesthetician and the front desk person. If you need a massage or facial, choose another place, you might pay a little extra, but at least you’ll get good customer service and a relaxing experience.
I've been here twice, once during Covid and just recently. I went because it was close by, I had read great reviews and my body was in severe pain, my entire back, my shoulders and legs. The first time I went, I had asked for a deep tissue massage. The professionals were amazing. They got to every part of my body that was in agony. They were kind and empathetic to my needs. The very next day my back did feel a bit bruised up, but I needed it, it wasn't a bad pain, it was a sore kind of a pain. I rathered the sore pain then the back pain, 100%. When I had recently gone, again I was in so much pain, I had to make an emergency appointment that day. They were kind enough to take me in and I booked a 60 min massage. The lady had asked me what I needed and when I stated deep tissue she asked me several questions about getting previous massages and how often. She had warned me that I would feel very sore the next day if I got a deep tissue. Which she was correct. So she suggested a light to medium massage. I went with her suggestion because she is the professional. She had applied very little pressure to my back in two spots and I felt two cracks, but it was a relief kind of crack and I knew I had definitely needed their assistance. The room was very clean, the towels, blankets and robe were just as clean. The lady often checked in and asked if what she was doing okay. She got to every part of my back that was in pain and it felt amazing. My shoulders, neck, lower back and legs got the attention they needed for relief. The music and ambience was perfect and most of all this place was very affordable. Trust when I say the 60mins massage is so work the money. The only way to repay her with the greatest thank you, was by giving her a really good tip because I know her hands get alot of ware and tear form constantly massaging people and she deserves it. The next day I swear my back felt brand new. I was able to go to work and work as if I had had no back pain in weeks. I felt amazing. I plan on returning at least once every two weeks because my body needed the self care and this place is just that great. There are places to get food, dessert and coffee within walking distance right afterwards and there are two bus stops, one going into Staten Island and one going to the South Ferry.
The woman at the counter dressed in black was very rude. I would ask a question about my soleus muscle and the receptionist yelled from the front yes she knows that muscle. I asked my masseuse to concentrate on the lower part of my body because of tightness from Running. She never understood what I said and therefore I didn’t get the massage I needed. When I asked the receptionist about, she said yeah, they can concentrate on the lower body but I have to tell them 30 minutes. The masseuse understood very well about tip because when I gave her $10, she demanded $15 for the tip. I would never go back again. This is a very amateur spa that really doesn’t know the body well.
