I’ve been eating here since they first opened and have never had a bad experience. It’s a quick drive from downtown New Orleans and WELL worth it. The staff treats everyone like family and always have a great attitude, even when business is crazy and people take forever and a day to order (despite having daily menus on social media and in line while you wait 🙃)! They typically have a line, but that speaks volumes to the quality of their food and staff. Don’t let the lines deter you, they move QUICK! Cannot recommend them enough!
🍗 Chicken’s Kitchen – Gretna, LA ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) I’ve lived in New Orleans for over 10 years and somehow today was the first time I tried Chicken’s Kitchen. Let me tell you, my life has been divided into two parts: before Chicken’s Kitchen and after Chicken’s Kitchen. I pulled up around 1:20 PM after seeing them all over social media. I expected chaos, crowds, and disappointment, but there were only about six people in line. I figured the food had to be good because everyone ahead of me kept asking for the braised beef — and every time the cashier said "sold out," I felt the FOMO building in my soul. By the time I got to the counter, I ordered like a person who didn’t plan to eat again until next week. Braised beef over mac and cheese, a side of potato salad, one pepper ball, and because I clearly have no self-control, a side of lasagna. Thirty bucks later I was holding a five-pound bag of happiness. The lasagna was everything your grandma would make if she went to culinary school. The pepper ball? Imagine a boudin ball and a stuffed pepper had a food-loving baby. Shrimp, dirty rice, crunch — perfection. The braised beef was so tender I almost texted it "good morning." I had to save half just to extend the relationship. And yes, I cracked open a cold can Coke to make it official. Chef Chicken himself was walking around greeting customers with the kind of confidence you only get when you know you’re serving greatness. The place runs cafeteria style with about eight tables inside, and there’s a lady at the door selling baked goods who deserves her own shout-out. Pro tip: if you order online, pick up from their satellite kitchen, not inside the main spot. Flavor 10 out of 10. Portions 10 out of 10. Vibe pure New Orleans hospitality with a side of joy. If you’re serious about soul food or just looking for a meal that’ll make you rethink your life choices, Chicken’s Kitchen in Gretna is the one. #SoulFood #NewOrleansEats #ChickenKitchenGretna #HiddenGem #CreoleComfort #FoodieFind
My husband and I took a trip to NOLA and my husband decided to try something different rather than the typical restaurant setting. I was reluctant to the idea due to the long line outside and lack of seating. However, I agreed to wait it out and take the food to go. Pros- everything was DELICIOUS!! The bread pudding was a unique color due to how it was decorated but still amazing. The staff was friendly and worked hard to get the line moving quickly. The portions are generous and the pricing is more than fair. We paid $42 (including tip) for everything shown in the pics. Cons- While the food was full of flavor, I would suggest going easier on the salt. For some patrons, I can see it being a bit much depending on what they are used to. Overall, 10/10 experience and if we ever visit NOLA again, we will be back to try a different dish.
Everything GOOD! I also tried the chicken bombs and they have a kick to them. Roasted chicken was top tier! Mac n Cheese is chef's kiss. Service is slow as hell but worth the wait.
I really enjoyed my first trip to Chicken's Kitchen. I gotta say, it's hard to not be overwhelmed by the desserts that are right at the door. But the first thing I noticed is that it's kinda hot in the joint. Not unbearable, but it's warm. No worries, the line moves quickly. I got the fried fish with mac and cheese, candied green beans and potato salad. The fish was hot, good, crispy and you can taste the lemon they put on it. The mac and cheese was good, cheesey and creamy. I normally don't like sharp cheddar, and you can taste it, but the other cheeses balance out the taste. I love green beans, but the candied green beans were a new one for me. I ate them, but I wasn't crazy about the sweet flavor. I'll definitely be back to try other stuff.
This place was recommended to me by a local. Oh goodness, was this a great recommendation! I made the mistake of trying to just walk in, and was advised to go to the back of the line. I only ended up waiting 2-3 minutes but I'm sure the wait is a bit longer when they are busy. I went on Tuesday which is oxtail day. The oxtail here was the best dish I ate while in New Orleans, which is saying something as I also dined at Jewel of the South and ate the menu at Restaurant August. Top notch service too, they have a warm demeanor and love to see customers enjoying the food. I also ate mac and cheese, Yams, greens, catfish, chicken, and some other items. I did not try the gravy but will do upon my return. An excellent and necessary trip for the intrepid foodie
Lunch was ordered for a lunch and learn meeting at work. Food was delicious. I had the fried catfish, mac and cheese, stir fried cabbage and coco greens. Everything was tasty 😁 Keep up the great work you're doing in our community. God bless you All 🙏🏾🥰
