AMAZING SERVICE. PHENOMENAL WOMAN. BEAUTIFUL SOUL.!!!!! Ms. Tina is the best of the best . I had a few weeks to go before my wedding and I was very very stressed about my wedding hair look. I found The Black Pearl Durham after reviewing options and God blessed me with everything I needed. She was kind ,listened, effective, and prompt communication. I sent her photos of what I envisioned and she created the perfect look for me. I did a trial and was soooo happy with the outcome!!! On my wedding day she went above and beyond. We had prepped my hair the night before...adding the extensions ..washing..color etc. On wedding day we styled and got me ready in no time. She locked down my bridesmaids looks and even touched up a few who had hair done prior to flying in. Mannnnnn everyone looked stunning. And and she graciously chauffeured my best friend and I to wedding venue so I can retreat early to the bridal dressing room. What a Blessing to have such a person in my presence on such a special day ..everyone ..my mom..grandma..sisters..friends..can.feel the amazing person she is and the skill and passion she puts into her work. Thank you forever !!!!.

I was looking for a last minute style for my birthday. I contacted Katina and she responded within the hour. She had availability in the week and sent a very thorough communication about how to send a deposit to secure my appointment. She then requested pictures to get an idea of how to style my hair to my liking. On the day of service she was very friendly and personable. Her salon space was clean and intimate with no wait time. Katina was extremely knowledgeable and professional and even gave me tips on how to maintain my style as well as hair and scalp care. I will definitely be booking with her again.

The best hair salon and hairstylist in Durham, North Carolina! Ms. Katina went above and beyond in explaining every step of the process to me and how I should properly care for my hair. I had a virgin perm done, along with washing, drying, deep conditioning, trimming my ends, and straightening. When she finished, my hair felt incredibly healthy, full of volume, and noticeably longer. I also purchased her hair products — the shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, and styling foam — and I am so glad I did. She not only makes you feel comfortable during your appointment but also truly educates you about maintaining the health of your hair. Ms. Katina is one of the best hairstylists I have ever met. I would 100% recommend her to anyone looking for professional, caring, and knowledgeable hair care.

Ms. Tina was very knowledgeable and kind. She gave me tips to keep my hair healthy & retain length. And although I had a good amount of damage, Ms Tina preserved a lot of my healthy length. She also maintained COVID-safe practices, which made me feel safe. I will absolutely be returning to Ms Tina.

I cannot say enough about the wonderful experience that I had today at The Black Pearl. The salon itself is so beautifully appointed and welcoming. The atmosphere reflects the spirit of its owner, Ms. Tina, who is the best hairstylist I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Not only did she give me a great cut, she explained how to improve and maintain the health of my hair. I really appreciated that. Most important to me was just how comfortable she made me feel. It felt like I had known her for years, not just meeting today. That allowed me to trust her to give me a style I could feel good about and boy did she deliver. I recently moved to Durham and feel so fortunate to have found The Black Pearl and Ms. Tina; truly the best salon and hairstylist in Durham.

Not sure where to start. I haven't visited a hair salon in over 15+years, because I normally do my own thing with my hair, not having much confidence in anyone. However, I needed my hair cut and style, so I started surfing the internet, and came across Black Pearl. The reviews did it for me, so I decided to give Ms Tina a shot at it. I went there with a very open mind, hoping for the best, but at the same time expecting anything. Let me tell you, Ms Tina was amazing in every sense of the word. She was very warm and inviting, very knowledgeable in her field. She works magic with her hands. To say the least I was very impressed the way she handled her skill. What an awesome hair stylist with a great personality. To crown it off she did a lot of teaching, educating me on my hair type and the products that would work best. I received so many compliments on my hair cut from family members, friends and strangers alike. I am so excited, experimenting with different styles and just loving it all the way. Thank you, Tina, for my awesome makeover.

I never write reviews but Ms Katina is amazing so I had to! I went to have my hair cut by her yesterday for the first time, and was very anxious as I've had bad experiences before with people who think they can cut curly hair but actually can't. Katina KNOWS what she's doing: you can trust her literally with your eyes closed as she cuts! The most remarkable thing about her is that she is much more than what you've become used to finding in a hairstylist. Ms Katina is caring, affirming, intuitive, smart and really gifted. She is a wonderful listener and really cares about giving you exactly what you want, without ever forcing any suggestion on you. She truly is the Black pearl of Durham!!! Trust the reviews and pay her a visit, people!!! NOTE: The salon (as of early 2024) has moved from Broad St to 3925 N. Duke St, suite 121 (inside the Endivo Hair Gallery)!
