What a wonderful experience i had! First time at Taji and it felt like i have been a repeat client! The warm reception right from the door, by amazing ladies made me feel comfortable and at home. 😊. My stylist - Dominique, did such a fantastique job shampooing and retwisting my locs. She pays attention to detail and is swift and careful with hair. No scalp pain, no pulling! Thank you so much Dominique 😍. I know i will definitely be back soon!! Thank you Taji!
I needed a last minute haircut during travel and booked with Satina. She helped me find the right look and I LOVE it. Even if it was our first time meeting, she got to know me and my needs to give a wonderful service. I'm glad I was open minded because her advise was en pointe 🙂 If I ever need a salonist in Durham, I will be looking for her again!
I’ve never experienced such poor customer service in my life. I walked in hoping for a simple wash, trim, and braid-down. I was assigned to a young woman who seemed hesitant from the start. I later learned she was an assistant—not a licensed stylist—which was never explained to me upfront. She washed and blow-dried my hair, but the water was uncomfortably hot. I had to ask her multiple times to lower the temperature. Once we got to the "trim," it became very clear she did not know what she was doing. I’ve been getting my hair professionally done since I was 13—I can tell the difference between a trained stylist and someone who isn’t. She changed shears twice, said they weren’t working, and mentioned she was having difficulty because she’s left-handed. I tried to be patient, figuring everyone has to start somewhere, but that’s something I expect at a hair school—not a salon. I was still charged $40 for what was absolutely not a proper trim. When it came time to braid, I explained that perfection wasn’t necessary since I’d be wearing a wig. Even so, I had to stop her after the first braid and ask what she was doing. She said, "Oh, you want it to lay flat." Yes—because I’m wearing a wig over it. At that point, it was obvious she was uncomfortable doing cornrows, so I asked her to stop. I even told her that if you’re not comfortable performing a service, you shouldn’t accept the client. Unfortunately, the manager had already left, so I couldn’t show her what was happening. Another stylist had to step in to finish the service, yet I was still charged over $100—even after expressing my dissatisfaction. To make matters worse, the manager later admitted that the assistant had already told her she wasn’t comfortable doing cornrows. So why was she assigned to me anyway? When I explained that I wasn’t satisfied with the trim, the manager asked if I wanted to take down the braids to show her. That response alone speaks volumes. Poor customer service from start to finish. I went in expecting a simple service and left frustrated, overcharged, and disappointed. I will never return, and I wouldn’t recommend this salon to anyone unless you have time and money to waste.
I've been to this salon in Raleigh but this was my first time at their Durham location. I scheduled an appointment to receive Marley Twists but received something completely subpar. The twists were all different lengths and sizes with the ends not secured at all. I paid $260 for this hairstyle. After reaching out to the salon, I still haven't heard back. Note, I have 4C hair but it's never been an issue to twist. **Review Update** Since contacting the salon and speaking with Ron, I was given a full refund for the service I paid for. Ron was very professional and apologized for my unpleasant experience.
Oh my goodness I am completely satisfied with my starter locs and my stylist Jamie!!! I have tried multiple methods and multiple people to start my locs over 20 years with no success. Jamie has helped me officially with my loc journey. Also I was unaware of how versatile the styles could be (see photos). Come to Taji in Durham and ASK FOR JAMIE!
Samantha is absolutely amazing! She takes a style I like and adds a beautiful twist to it! I love the flat twist styles she does. She has also been teaching me how to take better care of my natural hair. Book with Samantha today, you will be so glad you did!
I had a great experience with Dominique. I moved to a small town far from NC so I really miss this hair salon right about now lol. Dominique is a sweet heart. She took time listening to my hair concerns and did the best hair dye for me . My hair was super moisturized. She was on time for the appointment. She really cares, you will feel like it’s your sister/aunt/friend doing your hair coz she does it whole heartedly!
