Howard Johnson by Wyndham Downtown Rapid City

Elevation Inn - Water was turned off for hours to fix "pressure and temperature" issues. The issue was not resolved. The shower would get freezing cold all of a sudden. The wifi is terrible, so you can't watch TV because it freezes up constantly. You can't work from there because of the horrible internet service either. If you need to do a zoom meeting, you will need to leave the hotel to do it as it will freeze up or not connect. The front desk staff were very apologetic noting that they were aware of the issues and "working on it". Also, if you go out the back door near the end of the parking lot, watch your step off the curb. It's uneven and a hip fracture waiting to happen! I stepped off and nearly fell.

Nice hotel. Close to downtown. We enjoyed our stay and came back on our way back to the airport on our flight out.

The lady at the front desk was very helpful and me planning my itinerary. The breakfast was wonderful. I really enjoyed the hot tub and the swimming pool. The rooms were always cleaned and very tidy. I enjoyed staying here.

It was pretty clean, and the staff was awesome. Hot water, nice pool, and clean rooms.

My family and I booked several rooms here as we were in town for my Mom's Memorial service. The rooms were so clean, Management was great and was a good stay for a sad occasion.

Great value very clean the staff was very accommodating. The breakfast was very good lots of choices.

Overall this hotel is very basic and the property is somewhat tired-looking. I need to remind myself over and over again that photos only tell part of the story. The first picture I saw online for this hotel was of the hot tubs and pool, but after a bumpy 9-hour drive, one of the first things I was told by the front-desk representative was that the hot tubs weren’t working. We were disappointed, but these things happen. We were, however, pleased with the pool, although the aggregate deck material was pretty rough on the feet. Chlorine level was not overwhelming or off putting, though. Our room was spacious and looked nice, and the beds were comfortable, but the sink faucet handle was loose to the point of nearly coming off, and the toilet seat was loose. Of course I fix these things in my own home, but I’m not in the habit of bringing a toolkit into hotel rooms. Maybe I should… Shower water pressure was barely passable, but I’m nearly certain we’ve all grown used to this by now. For what it’s worth, I would pay $5 more for the extra water if I had that option. Breakfast was decent as far as free continental breakfasts are concerned, but nothing remarkable. Although our stay was relatively comfortable, we will most likely not return to this hotel the next time we’re in Rapid City. For the price, there’s probably better out there.
