When visiting Charleston from Charlotte, visiting the Happy Southerner was at the top of my list - I couldn’t wait to see all of the mahjong goodies in person! Jackie was so kind and welcoming to me and my family. We had great conversation about our favorite tiles, she gave my mother-in-law information on where to play mahjong locally, and even had recommendations for other shops in the area to check out that day. I purchased a beautiful mat from the shop that day, and every time I use it, it sparks joy because I am enjoying my favorite game and remembering the great experience I had in store. I could have waited and purchased the mat online using a promo code to save money, but it was worth every penny to support a lovely local shop that provided such a nice experience for us.

The Happy Southerner truly is a gem! I love stopping in and always find the best gifts for all occasions. The mahjong selection is fabulous and the staff was so helpful in providing me with mat options for my very unique mahjong tiles. Love this store and the entire team!

I had the most fun experience shopping at The Happy Southerner while in Mount Pleasant visiting my sister over Christmas. We were immediately greeted by the owner, Jackie, upon arriving. Upon entering her beautiful and fun store, she popped the bubbly to offer us a tasting of one of the yummy mimosa mixes the store sells (the first gift of the day). She then took me over to her Mahjong section of the store. Oh. My. Goodness ❤️🀄️ Her Mahjong inventory selection was amazing! Mahjong is not inexpensive… so, it was so nice to be able to see and touch the products in person prior to purchasing. It was such a fun experience to be able to lay out the different mat options in order to select which racks and tiles paired best to ensure I purchased the perfect set/tablescape. The icing on the cake was her gift to her mahjong customers - a free mat with the purchase of a set of tiles and racks. That’s an $80 value!!! I was so excited to receive a free mat but was also thankful that she wanted to give back to her customers by offering such a generous promotion. Her store also offers the most fun and current gift items for so many occasions. I raved about this store so much that my children went there to purchase additional Christmas gifts for me while they were in town visiting. This will definitely be a store that I will visit anytime I’m in the Mount Pleasant area. Thank you Jackie - you’re doing a GREAT job 🥰

Found the Happy Southerner not long ago and absolutely LOVE the store. They stock the best gifts and things but also have nearly every mahjong item you could possibly want! Jackie, the owner, is so wonderful! She’s kind, welcoming, and so so friendly. I was so happy to go back for their mahjong open play they do every third Thursday and the vibes were just as fun and welcoming as they were when I shopped with the first. Highly recommend stopping by to support this small business!

I honestly don’t know what’s cuter -the adorable giftables in this store, or Jackie the owner. ANY time I have friends visiting from out of town I go here first for a little pillow present for them and they always go over incredibly well. This shop has the best Charleston themed gifts, mahjong gear, and adorable clothes, too. On top of that, Jackie is precious, friendly, outgoing, and helpful. It is so easy to see she truly curates every single item in the shop and cares so much about what she sells. It is amazing for non-locals but yet still a staple for us who live here.

Love this store!!! Found it through Instagram prior to moving to the Charleston area. Purchased a Mahjong set in September; loved all the options and the special deal with the free mat. Got to experience all the tiles and accessories in person and didn’t have to wait for shipping. Also, recently shopped Christmas decor and gifts. The store offers such great items and has the best staff. Highly recommend. Honestly, saw they were hiring the other day and if I lived closer I would love to join their team.

Ever find a store where you just black out and find yourself saying you’ll take one of everything? For me, this is that store. From the t-shirt that says "I hiked Mt. Pleasant" (IYKYK) to my little canvas bag that says "working harder than an ugly stripper" 😂 And my latest and greatest purchase - the Santa mug. All my Christmas gifts were from here and were a huge hit! Thank You 💗
