Customer Reviews
GW Fins has a rating of 4.8 out of 5 based on over 5246 reviews on Google
We arrived on time for our 7pm reservation, but it took over 15 min to seat us. Without any explanation of the delay, this was odd. The service was not spectacular, hardly any smile on any staff's faces. I ordered the popular lobster dumplings and Scalibut. While the food were beautifully presented, the lobster dumpling could use some thin sliced ginger though. The risotto under the halibut was not evenly heated. It was cold. The sauce around the scalibut was underwhelming. Putting 2-3 scalps on a piece of halibut and call it a new name, Scalibut, with one piece of tint shrimp next to it was totally not worth the $42 price tag. The recommended pairing of Sandenan Founder Reserve Ruby ($9) with the Chocolate Mousse Bombe ($12) tasted old and oxidized. We had just had a an exceptional dinner (equally expensive and high-end at Commanders Palace) the night before, where all the staff and restaurants manager were all pleasant. The manager came over to check on us twice with a smile, and offered to take photos for us because she knew we were celebrating a birthday. To the owners and managers at GW Fins, restaurant is a cut throat business, your staff represent you and your reputation. Unfortunately, we left quite disappointed tonight, and we will not return to your establishment. We certainly hope that if you were to continue to serve guests, please train your staff that they are "on stage" when they are on duty, that their job is create an exceptional dining experience for every guest.
Our server Dennis was soooo friendly and very very attentive. The food was so. Amazing. I'm so in dread of being back home and not having this place being just a 5 minute walk away. We got those tempura fin wings and my goodness. I can't even describe the taste of the sauce, but it's like it was sweet but had a tang to it. So so tender. You gotta get those, then the sheepshead was such an interesting dish but one of my top entrees out of the whole week in Nola. My partner got the scalibut and everything was just so delicious. We almost almost finished our plates, if only fish could sit well after or I would have been eating it at midnight. Such a lovely ambience as well, definitely my favorite restaurant of all time. Also we tried that Mardi gras funnel cake and my gosh, how the heck did they make this taste so luxurious 😭😭
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely amazing food—everything was flavorful and perfectly portioned. We ordered the tuna, drum, halibut, grouper, pasta, barbecue shrimp and grits, and lobster dumplings, and every dish was delicious. The biscuits were outstanding—so creamy and full of flavor. The ambiance was very nice as well. Highly recommend!
Very good food and service. Starting with the good the lobster bisque and calamari was really good. I have definitely never had calamari like I've had here. The star of the show was the desserts. The creme brulee was kind of basic creme brulee there wasn't much special with it but the coconut thing was really good and I've never had that anywhere. The biscuits they serve were hard as rocks and we're just not good at all. The main thing I didn't like is I got a reservation and didn't realize there was a dress code for this place so when we got there they kind of said that I was looking bad even though I was just wearing a T-shirt and pants. But you have to have I guess some kind of button up top with a collar or something to be able to sit in the restaurant. But she did let us sit in the bar area. And we did only come here to get dessert but there's another rule that they don't tell you about is that you have to order more than just dessert. Which I think is a weird rule but whatever. It just made us feel extremely uncomfortable and I definitely did not like that. but the food that we got made up for the fact and we actually would like to come back again because there's other stuff on their menu that look very good
Beautiful place and the service is great but beyond that if your used to great flavors this would be a little under whelming. While the fish and ingredients are great quality the seasoning you come for in new Orleans it's not it. Korean flavor wings had them in Chicago so many times . This place going to charge to so much to put it on fish for you. New Orleans has so many hidden gems...
My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful dining experience at GW Fins. The food was exceptional, truly the best fish I have ever eaten. Every dish was prepared perfectly and full of flavor. They even split one meal on to two separate plates for us without us asking. So kind. The staff were welcoming, professional, and attentive, and our server, Denis, was outstanding. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and made the experience feel special without being overbearing. My husband has only recently started to enjoy fish, and he hasn’t stopped raving about his meal, which says everything. We can’t recommend GW Fins enough and will absolutely return the next time we’re in New Orleans.
In GW Fins the experience goes beyond just a meal; it’s a culinary voyage. The restaurant boasts a nautical theme, with décor that reminds you of coastal dining. Upon entering, the friendly staff welcomed me warmly. I opted for the grilled salmon, and it was cooked to perfection—flaky and seasoned just right, served on a bed of seasonal vegetables. The house-made tartar sauce was a delightful touch, adding a zesty flavor that complemented the fish beautifully. The clam chowder was rich and creamy, brimming with fresh clams and herbs. For dessert, I indulged in the key lime pie, which had the perfect balance of tartness and sweetness. The prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of the ingredients. Ocean's Catch is a haven for seafood lovers, offering fresh dishes that transport you straight to the ocean.
