What an experience! I am no chef, I do not cook, and admittedly after a long workweek, all I wanted to do last night was veg on my couch and watch Netflix...but my hubs planned this special birthday dinner for our bestie Britt, and so I showed up hoping to fade into the background and let my hubs do the cooking. Little did I know that it was a hands-on experience for everyone involved. It was a BLAST! I couldn't believe I was making homemade pasta, but Jackie guided us every step of the way. What was so remarkable about the experience was how incredibly APPROACHABLE she made the entire process. I get overwhelmed easily in the kitchen, but she took care of me and coached me through it, and never once did I feel out of my element. Moreover, her kitchen studio space is just gorgeous and so well appointed. Her business is such a wonderful addition to the Midtown neighborhood! You'll see that in the final picture that her team members Gabby and Brooke set the table and plated the pastas beautifully. It was such a fitting celebration, and the FLAVORS of these pastas just blew our minds! She does corporate events, cooking classes, cocktail hours, and seeing how well she and her team executed, I am confident that she delivers. RUN, don't walk to Fennel Cooking Studio!
Fennel Cooking Studio’s "Plant-Based Thanksgiving" class taught by owner Chef Jackie was phenomenal! Even though I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving (#NationalDayofMourning), it was wonderful to learn how to prepare multiple autumn-inspired vegan dishes using seasonal ingredients. The studio was bright, clean, organized, and felt inviting with four work stations to work on cooking the recipes together as groups. Each attendee received a folder with all the recipes we’d be learning that evening, and pens were readily available to make any notations. Chef Jackie is an excellent instructor, and was happy to answer any questions attendees had, like how to tackle cutting an ingredient like fennel, and her two assistants were so helpful at keeping workstations clean and flowing. It was also helpful after preparing the recipes in groups to discuss any challenges we faced or how other groups approached the recipes a bit differently before digging in to enjoy all the dishes. This was my first class at Fennel Cooking Studio, but I know I’ll be back for more plant-based cooking classes soon! Thanks so much!
After taking a phenomenal pasta class at Fennel I reached out to Jackie about a private event for mine and my husband’s birthday. They have a wide variety of pre-planned menus to choose from but we opted to do a custom Mexican cuisine night with seasonal local produce, a mandatory sweet treat, and catered to a few dietary restrictions. It was a big ask in my opinion, but Jackie quickly came up with a menu of green chicken pozole, mushroom and acorn tacos (handmade tortillas!) with a pepita mole sauce, and all of the fixings! Since dinner would be served pretty late Jackie suggested we make salsas to snack on as the first course - genius! We also made the most delicious Mexican chocolate mousse to end the night. Everything was pre-portioned, the staff is constantly clearing your workspace, and they keep this building incredibly clean. Our group felt so warm and welcomed here. This was a great way to mix our friend groups, share a little bit of my culture with them, and everyone took home a new skill. I’ve come back a few times for more classes with friends and will be purchasing some gift certificates for loved ones this upcoming Holiday season. 11/10!
This place is so cute! Had the best time at a themed cookie decorating night, I can’t wait to come back and take a class or for another girl’s night.
What an awesome opportunity to take the class with Chef Bay and Jackie. I gained hands on experience in techniques and methodology in vegan cooking recipes that I will be able to replicate myself at home. The class was so well organized and presented . I’m looking forward to taking more classes in the future.
I took a pasta making class and it was SO FUN! The studio is beautiful and roomy, and so smartly designed. Jackie is amazing and she explained everything in detail. You can tell she is an expert. We all got plenty of hands on time to roll and make our own pasta shapes and make our sauces, then we got to sit down and eat them all. 10/10 Will definitely do again.
I don’t typically get excited for cooking classes, and I didn’t expect to have as much fun as I did at Fennel. I have been to cooking classes before and they felt sort of cold and uninspiring- like I was attending a college course. Jackie, the owner and Chef, was our instructor for the evening. Cooking with Jackie felt like cooking with a friend. She is very passionate about what she does and I could honestly hear her talk about food for hours. I can’t wait to attend more cooking classes at her cooking studio.
