I have severe obstructive sleep apnea. I have been using CPAP for years. I only need a yearly visit. Sometimes in person, sometimes a video visit. Darby NP is my sleep provider. My machine electronically sends information to Darby if my mask leaks or not and my sleep parameters. Medicare covers the replacement of the equipment. I am very pleased with the care I am receiving. 🙂

I would not recommend using the Stanford Sleep Medicine Center, as I’ve had a very frustrating experience trying to reschedule a follow-up appointment there. Their online patient portal does not allow rescheduling, and when you call the number they provide, the representatives, one of whom was very rude and unprofessional, can only "message the clinic". They can’t actually help you book or change an appointment directly. When the clinic finally calls back, if you miss that call (for example, because you’re working or in another appointment), you get stuck in an endless loop of calling again just routes you back to the same call center that can only send another message. Even after reaching out to Stanford Patient Relations, I still haven’t received a call to complete the rescheduling. It should not be this difficult to access care from a major medical center. Most patients have jobs and responsibilities that make it unrealistic to wait around for unpredictable callbacks during business hours. Stanford Sleep Medicine Center needs to provide a modern, patient-friendly scheduling system that allows online rescheduling or direct assistance by phone.

12.08.25 Results of 2nd Sleep Study with only 2 hrs 50 min of data collected due to poor sleep, "supine position" is not for me, with OSA worse during REM sleep; *AHI 10.6/hr *ODI 9.5/hr *SpO2 88% Now referred for surgical options as I cannot use CPAP. -FYI: custom mouth piece is $1,200-$2k so might as well do the surgical route. 10.30.25 8pm 30 min prep of all attachments & pre-sleep test, 4 hrs to fall asleep even with more convenient, comfortable & updated wiring attachments. Maybe got 3-3.5 hrs of sleep before requested 4am wake up. Hopefully got some good data. Was told up to 3 weeks for analysis completion. Facility, private room, linens, restroom, etc. were all super clean & fairly comfortable. My aid, Sandra, was so friendly, thank you to her! 12.27.22 1st Sleep Study = 76% SpO2.

I've had a terrible experience. Took me 3 fellows and 3 years to receive the ASV pap machine I think we need (note I still don't have it yet). Instead I've been having to nuke my mood swings with antidepressants but my entire medical team knows it's the untreated apnea. Very frustrating and I'm suffering a lot.

If I could give zero stars, I would. This place is DANGEROUS and lacks empathy completely. The care this medical facility provides is downright abysmal. I had a mental health crisis at my sleep study, where I became confused and benignly disoriented (no aggression at all), thus unable to complete my sleep study. This happened in the middle of the night, and as I was in for a research study I had nowhere else to go for the night. Instead of assisting me to get the care I clearly needed, the supervisor instructed the sleep specialist to call the POLICE and have me ARRESTED for being confused and not leaving in a timely manner (as I had nowhere safe to go for the night). This resulted in an extremely traumatic subsequent 48 hours, where I finally ended up at the ER where I should have been guided to at the start. *For your own safety* Seek any other sleep institution to complete your medical care. These people do not care about you at all, and will put you in a dangerous situation if you mildly inconvenience them.

After multiple headaches, insomnia and going through other life changes at my age, I was told I had to go through a sleep study here instead of taking home a home kit instead. Surprise! Was not looking forward to it but it was actually not bad. After seeing all the bad reviews, I must have been an exception. I saw here Doctors Amita Goyal, MD who then spoke with Anstella Robinson, MD and discussed thoroughly my diagnosis and concluded I should follow through with the clinic sleep study. I was then able to schedule it a little over a month. I could have done it sooner but it was not convenient at the time. Still. I didn’t have to wait long like others. I came to the office and was met with it seems like 5 other sleep study patients. James, the tech, took me in to my room and he was a pleasant man to work with and speak to. The room was pleasant and the room temps was good to sleep in when it’s usually cold in this office. I would recommend to bring your iPad and chargers to do something as their TV selection is terrible but then YOU are supposed to sleep. Haha I usually read on my iPad but used my hotspot on my iPad to use internet. I recommend to not wear any hair products or makeups but bring comfy clothes when you need to shower. Also, bring extra clothes in case stuff goes in your clothes. AND you will need to shower in the morning to take the paste out of your head. Bring all the things needed for your shower but they do provide shampoo, conditioner and soup, and towels. The conditioner works best first to take out the paste in your hair recommended by my morning tech, Neill. He was nice and friendly just like James. If I had to do this again, I would come back. As for the results in a month, let’s pray, it’s constructive results to help me. 😉

It is so sad to write this review for a world renowned medical center. Especially because I am in healthcare and have referred patients there. I took my son for a sleep evaluation. He had a sleep study scheduled for 5 months later. I got a call two months before the sleep study stating that the insurance denied it and that the study was cancelled. Then I got a call again saying that they possibly made a mistake and will try reapplying with insurance. And that the sleep study appointment is not confirmed until we get approval from insurance. Then I never hear back from them. The day of the sleep study I get a call to confirm if we are going to make it that night! The person confirming the appointment had no clue about the insurance denial. The front desk scheduling the appointment also had no clue what she was doing. everyone is lost. This is so sad because Stanford is marketed as the center most advanced in treating sleep apnea. But from my experience and others', it feels like the patients would be better off treated elsewhere. Luckily my sons case is not that severe, but I feel bad for other children.
