I hate having to write this review but I did not receive the lessons I paid for and have been trying for weeks to get in touch with GLN about it. I signed up for the beginner Arabic class. We had 4 classes then all of a sudden my teacher stopped showing up. I tried to contact her but she never returned any of my emails (I hope everything is ok!). I then reached out to GLN via email and left numerous voicemails asking to be placed in another class. I have not been able to get in touch with anyone from GLN for weeks. No one answers the phone and no one replies to my emails. At this point I just want a refund because I did not receive what I paid for. It's a shame because I really support the mission of GLN!
The affordable language lessons offered by the GLN uplift both students and teachers while making both learning and teaching fun. Moreover, the confidence that the used approach builds in students whether to improve at work, in their relationships, or to carry out missions overseas using learned foreign language is priceless. Such a wonderful network started within the classroom with observable major impact.
I took the 12-week Spanish Foreigner course with Michelle and it was a great experience! She's very knowledgeable, organized, and clear, as well as being very helpful and understanding towards student needs and questions. The class materials were comprehensive and extremely helpful to reference during and between classes.
I've taken two classes with GLN (Spanish foreigner and tourist) and can say that it has been an overwhelmingly positive experience. As someone brand new to the language, I've learned a lot, enjoyed the social experience in class, and feel far more confident speaking and listening.
I took Yoruba for Foreigners this Summer with Busayomi. My family is Nigerian, but I could barely understand a word of it, let alone speak it. Signing up for the class was pretty easy. It was also pretty affordable and they even give you a stipend at the end if you have good attendance throughout the course. The entire course was 8 weeks and done through Zoom. The class was pretty small, about 5 of us. The teacher was amazing. Very patient and encouraging! We started with basics like greetings and made our way up to more complex vocabulary and sentence structure. Honestly I was shocked to see Yoruba being offered as a language because I've been looking for a class for years. It was definitely fun to impress my family with all the things I had learned. I would definitely recommend GLN to anyone interested in learning a language. They have dozens of languages available, the more popular languages and the less common.
GLN is a great community! I have served as an English volunteer and taken classes in Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian, and I keep coming back from more. I highly recommend their immersive and affordable teaching model.
Good offering of affordable classes and a great community. My Spanish Frequent Flyer (intermediate) class with Mariela was amazing, with lots of interesting cultural content and plenty of speaking, listening and writing practice in a friendly, fun, relaxed learning environment. Most classes don't use a textbook, so they can have a less rigid structure, which was an advantage for me at intermediate level (more up-to-date topics and materials, often chosen based on students' interests). Online classes worked well and were very interactive thanks to Zoom and breakout rooms.
