Hubby and I went in for a couples massage. The massage itself was good, but unfortunately the overall experience was not relaxing. Since we were in the same room, the two massage therapists spent most of the session talking to each other nonstop, which was very distracting and took away from what should have been a relaxing time. We still left a 15% tip, which we felt was fair given the circumstances. However, the therapist became upset that we didn't give more, openly demanded a higher tip, and even told us not to come back lol. The level of entitlement and unprofessionalism was shocking and completely inappropriate.

2 stars. Disappointing second visit overshadowed a promising first experience. Last week, my partner and I booked 60 minute massages at Golden Island Massage to celebrate our 2nd anniversary, based on a strong recommendation from a bodyworker friend. I left feeling relaxed and genuinely pleased to have found this place. My male massage therapist clearly knew his craft, particularly the reflexology work on my feet and legs after I requested more attention there. His understanding of pressure points was evident, and the tension release work he did in my skull and face was wonderful. At $80 including a $20 tip, it felt like an excellent value. Bay Area prices are often closer to $3 per minute, so my expectations were realistic. This was a basic, solid massage, done well. Because of that experience, we returned the following week for 30 minute reflexology sessions during my birthday week. Unfortunately, this visit was dramatically different. The problems began immediately. We were positioned on a low table at an awkward angle, leaning back with our knees bent. At 5 foot 2, I had no real support, as my feet barely reached the bucket below, creating compression on my sacrum. The water was extremely hot, and instead of relaxing, the position aggravated my back. I moved my feet out of the bucket and hoped for a nice foot massage. Two female therapists returned and spent roughly half of the 30 minute session on face, neck, and shoulder massage. This was not reflexology and not what we booked. Had it been enjoyable, I would not be complaining, but instead I found myself tightening up and hoping the foot massage would shine. What began rattling me was a health situation. My partner’s therapist was audibly sick, coughing repeatedly with obvious chest congestion. Although she wore a mask, she was working directly over his face and within a few feet of me. The massage beds are very close together. When I commented that she appeared sick, she quickly claimed "allergies." I do not believe that. I am immunocompromised, with bday celebrations starting in 2 days, and I also work closely with elderly clients. Any illness risks not only my health but lost work and income. This situation felt deeply concerning and frankly unacceptable. If you are not well, you should not be touching clients. The actual foot massage portion lasted under 10 minutes. When she finally moved to my legs and then my feet, the pressure was either irritatingly fast and light or suddenly hard and rushed, with very sharp fingernails digging in. There was no middle ground despite clear feedback. There was zero understanding of chi lines, pressure points, or muscle attunement. After roughly 10 minutes of uncomfortable, rushed touch, both therapists left the room, returned briefly to wipe oil off our legs and feet with warm towels, and ended with light pressure over a blanket on hips and thighs. I am certified in Thai massage, have over 10 years of bodywork experience, and have enjoyed dozens of professional reflexology sessions in the U.S. and Asia. This was not reflexology. We still tipped, but I deeply regret not walking out. My partner later admitted that his first massage had actually felt mediocre as well, but he stayed quiet because he saw how much I enjoyed mine. This second visit felt equally mechanical to him. I understand that at lower priced massage establishments, expectations can differ and tipping often runs 25% to 35%. We paid that. I rarely can afford Bay Area rates, which is why I hope to find accessible places that still offer competent care for special occasions.

Been a regular customer for years. Some things you need to realize: the massage is underpriced and the therapists live on your tips. You must be generous. In 2025 I'd say you should be tipping $10-15 for a 1hr foot massage and $15-25 for a 1hr body. Yes that's more than 20% but you're still getting an amazing deal. The foot massage therapists are a bit of a grab bag with little training. Some are great and others not. They do put the more highly trained therapists in the body / more expensive massages. If you get someone you like then get their name and request them next time! You will be fully clothed for the foot massage in a shared room, but strip down to your underwear for the body massage in a private room.

My wife and I have been coming here for several years, both for individual and couple's massages. They do a great job and prices are low, so you should be prepared to tip well. The therapists probably don't make much more than minimum wage. Admittedly, language barrier can be an issue, but they will work with you because they do want to do a good job. We recently tried a different, more expensive place and were reminded why we keep coming back here. Highly recommend.

It was my first time here today. I will be back. I work long hours in a kitchen and spend a lot of time on my feet and also deal with a lot of hip pain. Sam was intuitive and spent a lot of time on key areas. Huge relief!

Not consistent. Some masseuse are good, some are lazy. Bad customer experience - pushy/inappropriate tipping ask

Going there for years for foot massages, fantastic place, but not for everyone. Each time is different as each masseur (mostly males) has their own techniques. Most of them don't speak English and it might be hard to share suggestions. But they all do great and are all nice, never encountered any issue. And very affordable.
