Tokyo Joe's - Surprise

Full disclosure: I was on my way to In-N-Out. I’ve driven past Tokyo Joe’s at least 100 times, always curious, always defaulting to a protein-style Double-Double. This time I rolled the dice and wandered in. Glad I did. Built my own bowl with grilled shrimp and took the cashier’s advice on sauces (peanut + curry). Excellent call. Deep, balanced flavor, a little heat from jalapeños, pineapple adding just enough sweet contrast, and veggies that were genuinely fresh and crisp. Protein portion felt fair, not skimpy. Is it cheaper than In-N-Out? No. Is it worth the extra few bucks when you want something lighter, cleaner, and still satisfying? Yep. The interior is modern and fun, but the patio is the move. Sitting outside on a crisp 65° January afternoon felt like peak Arizona. Only minor quirk: the patio backs up to a Starbucks drive-through, so your zen bowl may come with the faint hum of caffeine-fueled ambition. Not life-changing food, but thoughtfully executed and absolutely respectable. I’ll be back… even if I still love In-N-Out.

If I can give 100 stars to the staffs for excellent service, I would. We were waiting outside for them to open when their chef was kind enough to let us know they were. The staffs were the friendliest and kindest people I have ever dealt with in the food industry. They even remember their regulars and they warmly greeted everyone. They also regularly checked if we needed anything and asked how our food was. Our food was good. I wish they had some ramen (soup) options and not just bowls. They have a lot of healthy options to choose from. The place was clean and organized. The decors looked cool. Will definitely come back.

Anna made my first time a fun. I was waiting for a friend and she caught me trying to figure the menu out by the registers from acrossthe roo.. She offered to bring me a menu and then let me ask her all about it. She helped me pick between the salmon and the BBQ bowls and I have to say the BBQ bowl was delicious. Reasonable prices for a decent amount of food. They brought our food to us and even checked on us once. Really great service. Good job Tokyo Joe's!

This place is absolutely indispensable! My son has a lot of dietary restrictions and is also a picky eater (like most young kids) so when we discovered that he not only tolerated a poke bowl full of veggies, rice, and tofu, but actually LOVED it, this instantly became a regular outing for us. We live half an hour away but make it out on a biweekly (if not weekly) basis. I try something a little different almost every time and have never been disappointed. Also, I don't leave feeling like a guilty parent because it's so well-rounded and nutritious. Tokyo Joe's has become my little guy's favorite meal (it won the prestigious birthday selection this year!) and honestly one of my own as well. Everyone that works at this Surprise location, in particular, has only ever provided us with exceptional service. The fact that they're all so personable and kind is just the cherry on top. Love this place, and hope to continue being a loyal patron for many years to come!

Clean and very polite staff. I've searched everywhere for a location since moving from the East Valley, and I was so happy to have found this one. My only complaint was that the portions of protein were substantially smaller than they used to be. I'm not sure what you need to do in order to get a decent sized portion of meat but for almost $30 for two people I would think it's not an unreasonable request.

This place is great! I've been going there 2-3 times a week for the past year & a half and l ain't dead yet! The food is great and the staff is great. The staff gets along really well with each other and that creates a really good atmosphere. The prices seem to be compatible and if you're looking for a healthy meal, this is the place. And no, this is not a paid advertisement! LOL! Sincerely, Doug

Healthy carry out, or dine in with a table of 4 or less- Tokyo Joes is my favorite place and has been a standby for over 15 years when I would go to eat quite often in Colorado. I went today, and go at least once a week, sometimes more often if I am really craving it. The build your own bowl is perfection, and this year I have really enjoyed the new menu items added also! I get the Poke Bowl often too. Its great for someone that has preferences because it is all customizable! The staff is great; kind, friendly, and always gets my order right. I suggest eating in the restaurant, as the food is delicious and fresh and perfectly cooked and veggies are just the right amount of crunchy. The take home containers are great for re-using for meal portioning or tupperware, and I see a lot of health conscious people like EMT and Police dining there - Clean ingredients and Protein choices make it easy and you feel good the rest of the day with the right fuel!
