Sadly, this wonderful restaurant is closing at the end of July 2023. My first visit made me want to return to try other dishes! I enjoyed the beef bibimbap, with that tasty runny egg on top. I'm not into spicy dishes, so didn't add the sauce, and glad I didn't because it was very spicy when I sampled one drop! The stone bowl, being extremely hot, continued to sizzle throughout the meal, and made the rice at the bottom a little crunchy which was great! The beef was good and the vegetables, especially the bean sprouts, were flavorful. The service was excellent, and the little side sample dishes were interesting, some spicy, some not. My dining friend ordered the sizzling pork bolgogi and deemed it great! Some of the dishes are a little pricy, but when the dish is that good, it's worth the expence.
Went there for a quiet lunch the other week and found the food there wonderful! Tried the tteokbokki appetizer, beef bulgogi, salmon teriyaki, and the barley tea. The beef bulgogi firmly delivered upon expectations— the sauce was just sweet enough, bursting with umami, and the beef was nice and tender. The salmon teriyaki was tried with equal passion, flaky but still with a nice bite, and the flavor was well-rounded as well. Having this place being the first place we had ever tried tteokbokki before, we weren't sure what to expect, except spiciness. It was good, bringing a nice level of heat; the only thing perhaps it could use is a hint more of acidity (but again, unsure if it should have any in traditional recipes). However, it was still rather good. The barley tea... one sip and the mellow flavor flowed over the tongue, conjuring images of a crisp Autumn evening by a small fire, curled up reading a book. Definitely worth trying, though perhaps best suited for cooler temperatures than the heat of summer (our mistake!) Staff was friendly and polite, the smells amazing coming from the kitchens, and it was a quaint place. So thrilled to have found this place and tried them— looking forward to returning there again! **Update** Went back again in September 2022 and ordered the Dolsot Bibimbap (Stone Pot) and it was DELICIOUS! The lady working the front of house was nice and attentive!
The service and food was outstanding! The fried dumplings were the best we’ve ever had and the bulgogi was the perfect amount of spicy. The short rib bibimbap was amazing. We can’t wait to return for another wonderful experience.
First, the food was okay. I like their baby octopus- nakji bokkeum the most because of its flavor and seasonings. Next, I do not like the waitress because she was rude to us. I’ve been to many Korean restaurants before, and no matter how much we ordered, there would be a fair amount of side orders. It was not a good experience to me, and I will not come back. Hope their customer services will get better.
The aroma walking into the door set a tone for the experience. The food was amazing, and the waitress gave great recommendations.
Truly amazing authentic Korean restaurant! The dish that we had was called 'Gamjatang Jungol (spicy pork potato stew)' and it was authentic, good price, large portion and tasty. They also offer free korean side dishes including kimchi. Recommend anyone who enjoy authentic Korean food or who like spicy food!
I'm sad this place is closing because the food is delicious and authentic. The bulgogi was quite good, sides yummy (nicely done kimchi) , and customer service excellent. A gem that will be missed in Roanoke.
