One of 2025’s hottest new restaurants, it brings a cozy, intimate wine bar vibe with elevated Korean small plates. The banchan was great, and the beef brisket ssam was tender with a rich, caramelized flavor that paired nicely with fresh lettuce and ssamjang. The sesame mochi cake was an excellent way to end the meal, chewy with a nutty depth. The staff were super attentive and accommodating, making you feel well taken care of. It’s hard to get a reservation and honestly pricey for the portion size, but I’d recommend checking it out if you can
Small space that’s cute for a date night or catch up with a friend. Service was just ok. We sat at the counter and didn’t get a chance to interact with the chefs. It’s weird sitting right in front of them and not getting an acknowledgment. A simple "hi" would be a nice touch. Food was just meh when I compare it to general Korean food I’ve eaten. We ordered their banchan set, dumplings, and tteokbokki. A few of the dishes were too salty or just ok. Favorite thing was the dumplings though…I’d say must order if you go.
As a Korean American, I really wanted to love this place. I came in hoping to be impressed by the food, especially given the pricing. Paying $25 for banchan that’s typically complimentary at most Korean restaurants set a high bar that, unfortunately, the food didn’t meet. Everything we tried was overly salty, even the dessert, which was surprising. I was disappointed across the board, including the ssam, hwe, salad, tteokbokki, and mochi dessert. It feels like Koreans may not be the primary target audience here, which likely explains why the experience didn’t resonate with me.
If the phrase "Dimes Square wine bar" excites you, this might be your place. If not (like me), stay away. Food: The issue here isn’t ambition or over-planning. It’s that the flavors consistently punch in the wrong direction. The dumplings were dry to start, then completely overwhelmed by fresh dill (plus scallions and sesame), which just does not work here. The dill dominates everything and turns what should be a comforting dish into something oddly perfumed and unbalanced. We also ordered the much-hyped salad that everyone says to get. It’s visually beautiful, but that’s about where the positives end. The flavors don’t come together. It’s aggressively tangy in a way that feels disconnected from the rest of the dish, and the sesame notes become cloying when combined with the rich base underneath. It looks thoughtful, but eating it is confusing and ultimately unpleasant. The banchan were incredibly disappointing across the board. The tofu was genuinely the worst-prepared tofu I’ve ever had (bland, poorly seasoned, and texturally sad). The rest of the banchan landed somewhere between completely flat or flavored in ways that just didn’t make sense. Nothing complemented anything else. The only thing I actually enjoyed was the potato salad (a familiar Japanese / American / Korean-style mashup that was creamy, comforting, and coherent). Unfortunately, one decent side doesn’t save the meal. Concept & execution: This feels like food designed to fit a wine bar aesthetic rather than to taste good. Not bold, not comforting, not playful. Just muted in the wrong places and mismatched in others. It doesn’t land as Korean, and it doesn’t succeed as a compelling reinterpretation either. Space & service: The space is trendy and very much part of a specific downtown scene. Service was fine and everyone was clearly trying. Nothing was actively bad on that front. Overall, Suns feels like a place where the vibe is doing far more work than the food. Two stars for effort, but the flavors consistently missed, and I wouldn’t return.
the compact menu and the cozy space goes really well together. ssam would be the sole reason for me to come back again, the brisket is so tender and flavorful, perfect with lettuce wrap and gochujung. banchan, rice cakes, and salad was good but not as memorable.
Cozy intimate restaurant with simple menu. Recommend making a reservation in advance. There was two vegetarian menu options when we went but menu rotates very frequently so not sure if this is always the case. Banchan were rather filling and mostly vegetarian as well. Some flavours were similar seasonings but overall enjoyable. Really enjoyed the perilla seed soondobu soup. Will likely visit again. Seems there’s an extensive wine menu, and couple cocktail options. Very small space including restrooms
Had a wonderful and blessed dinner with my wife and daughter. It was a delicious and creative Korean dish. The Banchan and the ssam was the my favorite, oh that ttueoboki was the crazy good!
