When we first saw San Korean BBQ was coming to SMU Blvd months ago, we were excited. We usually drive all the way to Carrollton or Plano for Korean BBQ, so having a spot this close sounded awesome. I don’t mind the drive because the food in K Town is consistently great, but a closer option is always a win. It took forever to open, and at one point we honestly thought it never would. Then about a week ago I drove by, saw the "Open" sign, and we decided to go as soon as we could. We tried it today, and the experience was a mixed bag. The servers were nice, and there weren’t many people dining in, so we got seated right away. The menu looked fine for a soft opening, so we went in expecting a good first visit. But once the meat showed up, things went downhill. For the price, it felt like a total rip-off. We ordered a full portion of LA Galbi for $35 and got two pieces. We ordered a full portion of pork belly for $25 and got one piece. I was honestly shocked. At the KBBQ places we go to in K Town, you get way more meat for the same price, and it tastes better. I mentioned it to our waiter and he agreed. He said he’d brought it up to the owners and their reasoning was basically that they’re in Uptown, so they’re charging more because they think people around here will pay more for less. That might work on first-timers, but people who actually eat Korean BBQ regularly aren’t going to come back. I’d rather drive a little farther and eat great food in a fun, lively place than pay more for half the product. The banchan was also really limited. We only got kimchi, pickled radish, spicy cucumbers, and onion with jalapeño. Most Korean BBQ places give you a much bigger variety, and it’s part of what makes the whole experience worth it. If the owners are reading this, here’s my honest advice: don’t try to take advantage of customers just because of the neighborhood. If you want repeat business, give people what they’re paying for. Right now, the convenience isn’t enough to make it worth it.

Went for dinner tonight during their soft opening and was impressed! The owner introduced himself to us and gave us a free steak entree! We got the soft opening special was $40 and came with enough for two people bulgogi and teriyaki chicken, bunch of kimchis, and white rice and two different sauces. We can't wait to go back.

I really loved this place. Great location, but parking could be tough. The decor is clean and pretty. The service is attentive and knowledgeable. The food was delicious. The only detractor was that the bbq pit box makes it hard to sit in the booth. I recommend this place for a date night.

San BBQ is a brand-new Korean BBQ spot right next to Highland Park, and it’s already one of my favorite finds in Dallas. The space is spacious, clean, and very comfortable. It feels modern and well-designed, which makes the whole dining experience even better. If you’re looking for Korean barbecue near Highland Park or Preston Hollow, this is such a convenient location. My top recommendations: • Galbi-sal (marinated short rib) – tender, flavorful, and perfectly grilled • Woo-dae galbi (king short rib) – juicy and impressive, great for sharing • Chadolbaegi (thin-sliced brisket) – cooks quickly and pairs perfectly with dipping sauces Right now, it still feels like a hidden gem. It’s not overly crowded, so you can actually enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. I heard they’re planning to bring in a karaoke machine soon, which will make it even more fun for group dinners or celebrations. If you live in Dallas and love Korean BBQ, this is a fantastic spot for date night, family dinner with kids, or a casual get-together with friends. So glad to have a quality Korean barbecue restaurant this close to Highland Park. Highly recommend.
