What an amazing experience I had. The food was amazing. I order the intestine dish, and it blew me away. Although the restaurant is small, it is very cozy. I definitely felt like I got to experience an authentic Korean meal. The staff were very attentive. Even though they had a full house, they kept checking on us and helping us throughout the meal. I would love to come here again.
The best Korean BBQ in Chicago. I went back after 9 years, and it still tasted just as good. We had the chadolbaegi, and the quality was amazing. The employees even came over to grill it for us. The fried rice was delicious too. I’ll definitely return the next time I visit Chicago.
Although the service is a 0/5 (the ajuhma’s here don’t gaf), the food is a 5/5 hahaha The inside isn’t very spacious but my friend and I were able to get seated right away. We were originally going to order some cold noodles but since they ran out, we ended up getting the Beef SunDuBu JiGae and the Galbi. The banchan here is fantastic- every dish tasted so fresh and delicious. The sudubu was very savory and flavorful, it’s one of the best ones I’ve had in a while. As for the Galbi, the cut of meat is thicker than all the Korean restaurants I’ve ever been to but it’s also one of the best one’s I’ve had. Super tender and juicy- I still think about it from time to time haha. That being said, if you are expecting good customer service (even just OK/mid), this is not the place. Cho Sun Ok is strictly to just eat good Korean food and leave when you’re done. Note: The restaurant says it closes at 9:30 and let me tell you, the ajuhmas and cooks are wiping down tables and putting up chairs by 9:20 so if you’re coming in 30 minutes before closing, I’m wishing you the best of luck
I brought my aunt, who has lived in Chicago for 50 years, here. She was very surprised by how authentic the Korean food at this restaurant is. The restaurant’s atmosphere feels like stepping into Korea itself — like sitting down to eat a home-cooked meal made by a kind auntie. But you also have to accept that the service may be a bit difficult, as communication can be a challenge at times.
This was one of the most disrespectful dining experiences I’ve had in Chicago. From the start, the tone was dismissive and rude. Staff spoke to us in an informal, condescending manner. When dishes arrived and the table was full, instead of assisting, we were told—loudly—to "move things." Plates were set down with unnecessary force. The overall attitude felt hostile rather than hospitable. We grilled our own meat the entire time. Meanwhile, I watched staff actively grill meat for a neighboring table of foreign guests. The inconsistency was obvious and uncomfortable. At a $226.98 price point, basic professionalism and equal service should not be optional. The most unacceptable part: after I left a lower tip reflecting the service we received, I was confronted and told that I "must leave at least 15%," followed by being asked whether I was "from Korea." Tipping in the U.S. is discretionary and tied to service quality. Pressuring a guest over the amount and making comments like that is inappropriate and unprofessional. This restaurant charges premium prices but fails at the most fundamental element of hospitality: respect. I will not return, and I cannot recommend it.
I'm feeling very bad 👎 today to eat in restaurants 😕. They food does not look like the picture on the menu. it's not large intestine, it's the stomach. They cheat customers very badly. We couldn't eat it. It was terrible. Then they still take customers' money. I was pay 49.95$ for not right food. I'm feeling very angry. I'm never come back. Number 3 in pictures and the food they'gave to us. It's completely different.🤨
As a Korean, I’ve been going here for four decades. The food has always been great, and the staff work so hard to provide great service. Best place in Chicago to have authentic KBBQ.
