This is regarding LINK, a program specifically for young adults with special needs who need transitional services. We did not have a good experience with the transitional program during the school year 2023-2024. Originally it seemed to be going fine, very organized, lots of exciting things happening on a weekly basis & my son seemed to be getting the help he needed. Unfortunately, January came around and leadership changed. My son was yelled at for not remembering what to ask during an interview & for asking too many questions outside the interview perview, (leading him to tears!), the schedule went downhill, things were not organized as they had been nor was the communication kept up as it had been. My son came home feeling like a failure so often because of the things they said to him during his time in this program. They were not inclusive to his needs, (the need to stim which is basically just him walking around talking to himself & limited food preferences), which I find very strange since it's a special education program. My son has a hard time expressing himself with words but he felt he was put into positions where he didn't know how to defend himself or explain himself. He came away feeling like he couldn't get hired for jobs if he didn't do exactly what they wanted him to do. I came away under the impression that those in leadership there are lacking compassion for those with disabilities and basic common sense in how to work with them. My son's self-confidence went downhill because of this program so I strongly encourage other parents, who have young adults with special needs, to not put their children in this program.
I have good and bad experiences with this service but the people who work here really do care about the education of our children.
