Sign Language Center

This place is a real gem. In-person classes in NYC and over Zoom at a very good price! You will learn ASL and deaf history & awareness from Deaf teachers. They create an open atmosphere and every teacher brings their own style and perspective. You will learn a lot more than just how to sign and you will also have fun. I cannot say enough good things about SLC. Go take a class!!

I’ve been studying ASL with this school for a year. The teachers are very friendly and patient. They offer in person and online classes which is so convenient. There are people in my online classes from across the country which is awesome. The school also offers social events which is a fun way to practice your skills and meet new people. I highly recommend for learning sign language. There are great curriculums and teachers to help you learn fast and easy and you have fun while you’re learning. I’m super proud to be an SLC student!

We had a wonderful experience with SLC for our corporate event. We hosted a 1 hour session via Zoom where we learned ASL history, deaf history and a short ASL lesson from Chaya - it was a HIT! Even now a few days later, our employees are still talking about how much they enjoyed the class and even seeing what signs they can remember. I thought the class was really well done and loved that Chaya took the time to research our company and taught us some ASL related to our business. Our class was also recorded so that we can go back to it if we wanted to relearn any of the content. I would absolutely recommend SLC to any company looking to provide an educational experience to their employees!!

SLC is a fantastic place to learn ASL! The structure of the courses and individual classes are excellent and make the learning process clear and really fun! They have a really well designed curriculum. The teachers are all amazing, so humorous, patient and passionate to see their class succeed, and the management are very helpful and responsive. Highly recommend if you are seeking to go on a deep learning journey.

Sign Language Center is simply awesome. I find myself laughing and smiling in every class, and learning ASL has expanded my understanding of human expression, connection, and perception. The instructors are Deaf and are so generous in their willingness to teach hearing folks like me about the culture and history and etiquette. My ONE criticism is that I'm a part-time wheelchair user, and the space is not wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately that's a reality of New York City real estate, and I don't hold it against them. It's just something to be aware of if you're considering taking classes at SLC and have mobility issues that would make it difficult for you to walk up stairs. Lastly... shout-out to Jamil! You're an amazing teacher and you're always cracking me up with your jokes!

By far the best plunge I’ve ever taken . The teachers are amazing. Learning is challenging in the best way possible. Everyone is supportive and truly the best energy . I will always come back to SLC !
