On my birthday, my friends and I "cruised down Bourbon Street" a cooking class with Chef John! An absolutely amazing night and experience. I had so much laughter and fun. Chef John is a great host. The food was amazing and the lesson was very informative. The experience was well worth it. I would highly recommend it. I can't wait to try another one of his classes.
Signed up for the Japanese Menu with Chef John last week, as part of a friend's birthday celebration. It was a fun evening all round with 7 of us seated around his large kitchen table. Chef John is clearly an experienced and accomplished chef. He guided us through some knife skills, gave us a lot of tips on the food (Miso soup, seaweed salad, sushi rolls) we were preparing and the ingredients he used. One of our party of 5 has food allergies and these were handled swiftly with substitutions. We had the opportunity to hand roll our own sushi which was very cool and also surprisingly not as easy as we had initially thought. Chef John was very attentive and stepped us through that and made it fun. Definitely an enjoyable group activity and a different way to celebrate a birthday that's more than just a dinner out.
Although Chef John was engaging and informative, there needs to be more clarity in description that it IS in his own apartment and his own kitchen.... Older, third floor walk up in a huge apartment complex subdivision. He is great but the presentation and venue is probably not worth so cost. Food quality is great, but you are served with old wine glasses, low quality silverware, plastic water bottles and overall less of a vibe than we hoped for. Cozy it is, but seeing up close and personal a chef licking his finger after tasting food with it, was gross (he did use a spoon other times as well).
Chef John is the best! My partner and I had such a wonderful experience making sushi with him. We were constantly laughing, eating, and having a great time! Would definitely recommend do a cooking class with him! I know we would consider doing it again 🙂
We had an absolutely amazing experience with Chef John with the Voyage to Mexico cooking experience. For one, the food was just amazing, especially the lobster quesadillas and the avocado chocolate mousse. But more than that, we learned so much, had a lot of fun, and got to hang out with a celebrity chef who had decades of fascinating stories to share! I will never cut romaine lettuce the same way. 🙂 This was something we did for our 23rd wedding anniversary and it was special and unique experience, definitely one of our most memorable (in a good way) date nights.
Chef john was great! We did the sushi night with friends and the whole experience was beyond what we expected. Food was amazing, and he was a great teacher .
We enjoyed our "French Quarter Cuisine" night with Chef John — He was extremely welcoming and cooked us clean, delicious food. The experience was laidback yet educational! Highly recommend!
