Language Laughter Studio

LLS is a french immersive school - and the ratio french native and non native is very good among the kids. But what really sets LLS apart is how much time they spend outside—whenever the weather allows, they’re out playing in the playground or exploring the park, which is something you don’t often see in daycares around here. The team is also incredibly caring and supportive, always engaging the kids with songs, activities, and fun learning experiences.

Both of our children attend Language and Laughter Studio, and it has completely transformed our perspective on early education in NYC today. It has given us hope that schools with soul still exist. Their deep passion for early childhood education and commitment to teaching real, timeless value like connection, community, nature, and the importance of getting kids outdoor, is unparalleled. Pascale, who runs the school, is unlike any educator we’ve ever met, I’d send my kids to college with her if I could. While it’s a French immersion program, most parents don’t speak a word of French but choose the school to give their children the gift of a second language.

LLS was our choice after touring about 15 preschools, and we do not regret it for one second. The approach at just about everything at this preschool is with great care and thought for the children and intentionality. You can see it in the beautiful design of the space, but also in how the teachers approach anything that comes up with the children, be it potty training or even lunch time — all the kids in my child’s petite classroom read a poem together (all in French) thanking the world for the food they are eating before lunch and learn to take lunches out and put them back on their own. LLS encourages sustainability and teaches children about the beauty of our planet by maintaining a hybrid outdoor program, and encouraging whole fruits vs snacks in plastics. The children work with non plastic toys, they draw abstract art do as to not limit their young imaginations and go to school in a rhythm of songs and structure. We love LLS and highly encourage it for any parent, whether you’re looking for French immersion or not!

Both of our kids are at LLS and we love it! The teachers and the staff are incredibly caring. It feels like an extension of our family. Another aspect we love about this school is how much time kids spend outside, discovering the nature at Fort Greene Park. Would definitely recommend to any family living in the neighborhood.

Update Review 2023 There is no where else I would want to raise my children. My 6 year old graduated from LLS in 2022 but continues to go back for their after school class and summer camp because LLS is like a home for her. My little one is 21 months and has been doing the music class which she adores and recently did the camp which she enjoyed. She never cried, payed attention and was engaged the entire time. I can't wait for her to start school at LLS! Original Post Our daughter started LLS last year in the mini-maternelle, is now in Grande Section and will be enrolled in her third year at LLS next September. This wonderful play based program has many benefits in fostering curiosity in language and culture and developing creativity. During a difficult pandemic year, Pascale and her team had created an outdoor program which allowed the children to learn mostly outside at Fort Greene Park while staying safe. She has ensured safe protocols for the entire LLS community which we are grateful for. Our daughter's actions are the true testament of this wonderful school, she's always excited for drop-off, comes home everyday extremely happy and is eager to go back to school the next day. We should also mention that she is now fluent in French. LLS is a wonderful community and the children and parents have created great bonds in and out of school. We cannot describe in words how great an experience LLS has been for us.

My daughter has taken after-school classes and summer camp at Language and Laughter studio since she was 4 (she's 9 now). We love the school, and the teachers! My daughter really loves the French music classes there. In fact, she was starting to resist the various French lessons and after-school programs I was signing her up for until we started going to LLS. The loving, caring, creative environment made my daughter feel safe and happy when she was in a clingy stage with me, her mom! Now, my daughter's French tutor says she can speak well with other kids in French, and is above her grade level in the language! I credit the Language and Laughter Studio for keeping my daughter feeling interested and happy, surrounded by the French language. It's really a wonderful, great school. So creative, so fun, and such a great way to bring language, art and music to small children.

Our little one really thrived in LLS's summer camp. LO was excited to go to school/camp each day and came home singing new french songs and a bit of the alphabet in french, which we hadn't taught yet. Love that the camp doesn't use a lot of "stuff" at camp; the art projects sent home used very sustainable materials. We're aiming to attend again next year and would recommend to any families who want to help their child become a francophone/improve their french.
