I never write reviews but Shea did an amazing job!!!! She brought my curls back to LIFEEEE. She was super sweet and really cared about what I wanted. My favorite curly cut so far, will def go back! Highly recommend!!!

If you have curls, come see Shea - it’s a no-brainer. Shea is an amazing curl stylist for a wide range of curl types, and a whiz with colors. I don’t mind the commute from my home in the DC area bc I always know my curls (mixture of 3c and 4a) are in good hands with her. Photos show my natural color before (red jacket) and then after with Shea’s highlights (white dress).

She did my first short cut (from long) as a Curly Girl at Imagos. I was 50 at the time. It was the most ARTISTIC cut I have ever had! Events intervened and I lost track of her. Several years later, I found her in her own shop on Carytown! Shea is aaahhhmazing!

I have been going to Shea for the last seven years and will have a hard time trusting anyone else with my curly hair. She seems to remember every quirk of my curl pattern and freshens/revives my hair every time. For my own wedding, I didn't trust any other stylist with my hair and she did not disappoint; despite a rainy windy day, she gave me the most perfect hair which withstood the elements on the day. If you're looking for a trustworthy, kind and hardworking hairstylist, Shea is the person for you!

Shea is excellent! She's been cutting my hair for more than 10 years. I think it's been more like 12 years. She is professional, hardworking, and constantly updating her skills with classes in big cities. When I first had her cut my hair, I didn't realize how much natural curl I have to my hair. She taught me how to take care of my hair and always cuts my hair in a way that leaves it looking flattering, beautiful, and healthy. I highly recommend Shea, especially if you have curls or wavy hair.

I got a hair cut back in November. I was late to my appointment because of the crazy road closures from the event that was happening but she's was super busy that day and was backed up. She was very nice and definitely knew what she was doing. My biggest complaint is that thinning shears were used on my fine, low to medium density wavy hair and it has damaged my pattern really badly. My hair has been super frizzy and my curl clumps are stringy and have never been the same. My self esteem has always been connected with my hair and after this I've never been so distraught about my hair since I've started to learn how to take care of it. I was gonna have another appointment but I'm canceling to find someone else.

I had an odd experience with this salon that I thought was worth sharing. For some context, I scheduled an appointment online for 1/21/2025 at Shea Hair Studio. I've been going to the same salon for a couple years but I was flying my mom into Richmond for her 70th birthday on 2/1 and wanted to get my haircut by someone that specializes in thick curly hair. So I looked for places recommended by others and this studio came up. This is what happened and the quotes are verbatim: 1/21 (Tues) Text from the studio: "Hey Sean this is Shea. My apologies but I need to reschedule my clients today. Are you available tomorrow at 2:45?" I responded about 20 mins later: "Hi Shea. No worries! Yes, I can make that work." No big deal, I have kids and I get it. I moved a meeting around to make it work. 1/22 (Wed) text from the studio: "Sean - my apologies, it's been a tumble effect for me. Daughter is sick and so is her babysitter for today. I will send options for the week or early next week to pick from." I was in a meeting but responded about 3 minutes later so that the studio would know I got the message: "Ok. Sounds good." Still no big deal at this point, totally understand that things come up. Here's where it goes from ok to not ok... 1/24 (Fri): A couple days had gone by and I hadn't heard back so I followed up, "Hi Shea, I hope everyone is on the mend! I'm hoping I can get in before Thursday next week. Thank you :)" Nothing. 1/27 (Mon): Still no follow up, so I figured I would give it one more go, "Hi Shea, do you have any availability this week to reschedule my appointment? Thank you." As of this review it's 2/4 and no one followed up. Completely ghosted. I checked their Facebook thinking that there might be a post/announcement (before leaving a review) but I only found pics of haircuts posted on a couple of the days that I texted but didn’t hear back. Luckily, I was able to get in elsewhere before the birthday party.
