La Boheme Aveda Concept Salon

We are so happy that Mika, at La Boheme, was recommended to us. My daughter and I have been looking for a new stylist for a couple of years. When I see people with good haircuts, I ask them who cuts their hair. Usually, I am told they got their hair cut in Richmond or out of state. Finally, an amazing local stylist and colorist! La boheme has a comfy Bohemian vibe. The name is perfect for this salon. The receptionist is warm and friendly. It is upstairs(no elevator)and filled with light. Mika’s hair station is in a small room, so, if you have hearing issues-like I do, this room cancels out the noise in the large, high ceiling space of the main salon. I love open spaces with high ceilings, my ears just don’t. I had no trouble hearing or communicating with Mika in her room. Park on 21st street or on the side road. Not in the shopping center nor in the dry cleaners parking lot. We had no trouble finding parking. There were several on 21st but we parked on the side street since we knew we would be there longer than 2 hours.

Amber is a hair magician! Excellent salon overall. Clean, nice decor, and complimentary coffee/tea available. Aveda products are all vegan so this is a great option if you're looking for a vegan-friendly salon.

Emilie Kennedy has been cutting my hair for years and she's fantastic! She does a great job, is so sweet, and the salon is really nice and in a convenient location!

Highly recommend this salon! Melissa was my stylist and from the very beginning, she was very accommodating and friendly and it was clear her top priority was making sure that I was satisfied with everything about my appointment and how it went. The salon and its design was very comfortable and welcoming. Melissa used a beautiful balayage technique on my hair that ended up in a result that I could not stop admiring. It was exactly what I wanted! She gave me a lot of tips for maintenance that proved to be very helpful. Melissa’s kindness and talent along with the friendliness of all of the other staff and the peaceful environment that I experienced are enough to make me want to return! I appreciate my wonderful experience and can’t wait to get my hair done again!

I absolutely love La Boheme salon after just one visit and will now be a regular customer. I have had a pixie cut for little over a year and have had one bad cut and trim after the other! Either my hair was just lopped off or I had to go back or somewhere else for a different stylist to "fix" what the other had completely left uneven, too full, not blended or just not styled in anyway. My stylist (and new savior) is Courtney. She is warm, friendly, professional, experienced and all around a very nice and talented stylist. We had the best consultation I have ever had and I had 100% confidence in her because she discussed with me ahead of time what she was going to do with each part of my cut and why. I appreciated that and the fact that THAT was exactly what she did to my hair. Everything was enjoyable, from the ambiance of the salon to the finished results. She styled me at the end and ASKED if she could try something a little different versus just doing it and telling me later. She styled me with Aveda brillance gel and blow dried my hair and finished with a dab of shine/oil. The results were beautiful! My pixie is stylish, fits my personality completely, is even and clean and just looks great. I also met the owner and she took the time to come over, introduce herself and spend a few minutes talking to me. Plus, they are an Aveda salon (I know, you just can't go wrong there) and have all the Aveda hair products that I'll need. Go see Courtney, folks! You won't regret it.

I called the salon’s number and was scheduled for a full highlight and cut. On the phone call I expressed that my hair was thick and slightly below shoulder length and requested a stylist that was familiar and experienced with my type of hair. At my appointment I showed pictures to the stylist of the type of color and cut I was requesting. When I described and showed the cut, she told me that she doesn’t like to use the razor but she would if it was really what I wanted. I expressed that I wanted a heavy weave of color and I wanted to brighten up for the spring and summer. When I showed her a prior picture of me with the color I wanted, she told me that she didn’t want to ruin the color that was already there (still bleached blonde but just not as heavy of a weave for winter) and she would get my roots. I expressed that if she felt more comfortable without the razor and wanted to do the color however she wanted, that was fine, but I expected what I had shown in the pictures. I don’t care how you get from point A to B just make sure you get to B ! She agreed. I have had many stylists since we move (active duty) and it’s taken every one of them max 2.5 hrs to complete my hair. The stylist at this appointment took 4.5 hours to do my hair. She was unable to get the first foil in my hair and it took her 3 tries in which she replied "that it was going to take her a bit to get use to my hair". Another point she reached up and around me to the other side of my head and goes, "Well this is awkward. Next time I should have just turned the chair." At the end of the appointment my hair was the same color it had been with only my roots showing it had color. I am not one to get upset easily and thought that it was the lighting since it was dark and night time at this point and I may like it more in the morning when it was lighter. The following morning I was still unhappy with the color. I had paid well over $300 for the service and was sick that I didn’t even like it. I called and asked to speak to the owner of the business. She returned my call promptly and I respectfully voiced my concerns about my experience and how I was unhappy with how my hair turned out. I expressed that I did not feel comfortable going back to the same stylist to recorrect since I didn’t feel she was experienced enough to complete it based off of the previous night circumstances. The owner stated, that although the business scheduled me with this stylist, that they are contracted separately and I would need to go back to the original stylist or repay to have it corrected with another stylist at their facility. I intentionally did not provide the stylists name since I don’t feel it’s appropriate to slander her. I would definitely not go back to the salon knowing that they are unwilling to support correction or error of their stylists-contracted or not.

I bought a Groupon for a haircut with Courtney after chatting with her briefly on Facebook a few months ago and then reading reviews. She is AWESOME! I had been struggling to find someone to replace my hairdresser that took another job and I finally found that person in Courtney. She listens to what you want, asks a lot of questions and really wants you to be happy with your hair. She's also a super sweet, personable person to talk to. I will be back and I definitely recommend!
