Edina made my first visit to the salon in 6 months the most collaborative, educational, and empowering experience. From carefully executing each step - analyzing my unique hair health to tailoring my cut to my dream hair, she was patient, highly precise, and made me feel confident and comfortable at once. The quality of the technique as an art and thoroughness of the method here completely revitalized my hair. Not only is the energy of the staff and atmosphere nurturing of this, but the service stands out with tea selection and atmosphere offering a self-care oasis at any time of day. My hair literally floats and feels alive with volume, something I have never felt before. They were so thoughtful as to share tips and personalized recommendations to keep it this way, and for my next haircut I will definitely be coming back. Thanks again, Edina and team!
Booked the service after looking online. The front desk was very courteous and offered hot beverages upon entry. Hiro was very precise in his process, explaining exactly what he will cut, and making sure the cut will look good regardless of the angle of my face and if I sat down or stood up. The team was very enthusiastic. The stylists are trained in Japan and it was clear they have had may years of experience, Hiro even made small talk enjoyable through out the whole thing! He also preserved the length and shaped my hair into really nice layers and face framing pieces. I booked the last hair appointment and the hair cut took close to 1.5-2hrs but they didn’t rush, was very meticulous throughout, and were very accommodating to make sure it was an enjoyable experience. Somehow the hair looked even healthier on the second day!
Love!!!! I was a first time client today, took a chance on a Gilt City voucher as I'm in between colorists and the deal was too good to pass up. I got Edina as a colorist and she did a gorgeous job. I loved the attention to detail to my color - her work is extremely clean and precise in a way that shows she really cares about the results. I even told her not to bother too much with my blowout (I didn't have any plans tonight) and she gave me an absolutely gorgeous blowout anyhow. Oh, did I mention the color itself is just beautiful?? Also loved her very calm and chill demeanor and the salon itself, which feels warm and lived in. I'll return and will recommend to friends.
Tokuyama is one of those quiet Tribeca gems you almost don’t want to write about — because part of the magic is how understated it feels. But it deserves to be known. Taka brings that rare precision-meets-restraint philosophy to every cut. No theatrics. No over-styling. Just intention. He studies your hair, your face, your posture and then cuts in a way that feels architectural but effortless. This was my latest visit, and as always, the result is what I love most: long, healthy layers that move naturally, hold their shape, and look just as good air-dried as they do styled. The length is preserved, the ends are clean, and there’s this softness that feels very… lived-in Tribeca. Polished but never loud. The space itself mirrors that aesthetic - calm, minimal, thoughtful. It feels more like stepping into a quiet studio than a busy salon. You’re not rushed. You’re not oversold. You’re simply taken care of. If you appreciate craftsmanship, subtle luxury, and hair that grows out beautifully then Tokuyama is your place.
Had a women’s haircut with Taka, and as a first-time client, I couldn’t be happier! I walked out with the best layers I’ve ever had. Taka is incredibly professional and took the time to communicate with me throughout the entire process—explaining what he was doing, why he was doing it, and making sure I felt comfortable every step of the way. I’ve never had a stylist be so transparent and caring. When I showed him a picture of what I wanted, he thoughtfully walked me through the pros and cons of that style, explained the trade-offs, and then tailored it perfectly to suit me. I feel that the result wasn’t just a haircut, it was a style designed specifically for me. The whole experience felt personal, collaborative, and done with genuine care. I felt completely safe and in great hands the entire time. The outcome was amazing and well worth the money. Highly recommend Taka, and I’ll definitely be coming back!
Tokuyama Salon promises a luxurious Japanese head spa with ultimate relaxation and expert care, but my experience didn’t come close. My appointment was at 6 PM, but it didn’t start until 6:30pm. The "massage" was mostly done with machines, not hands-on techniques, and my scalp actually felt itchy afterward. My hair felt just okay—nothing special. Overall, very average and not the high-quality, soothing experience their website advertises. I won’t be returning.
I discovered Tokuyama Salon during the COVID pandemic when I was looking for a salon that did dry cuts and was more spacious, and I have been coming back ever since! Before that, I had spent years searching for a dry cut stylist who could cut my very difficult-to-manage bangs well and skillfully shape my voluminous hair - I had tried many different stylists here in NYC before finding Tokuyama Salon and Hiro! I was so grateful to have found Tokuyama Salon and Hiro as a stylist when I did - its talent like his and the others at the salon that keeps me coming back. They are true masters of the dry haircut (iykyk). (While I personally haven’t had my hair cut wet in over a decade, I’ve witnessed many great shampoo/cut/blow dry transformations during my many visits to the salon over the years!) And the salon itself has a creative and trendy - yet cozy - vibe and buzz. It’s not decorated like most hair salons, which makes it unique. It’s located on a super cool tucked away street of Tribeca by the Ghostbusters fire house - it’s always so fun to visit the salon. And it’s a super quick walk from soho & canal street!
