Customer Reviews
Harlem Natural Hair Salon has a rating of 4.4 out of 5 based on over 808 reviews on Google
I researched and finally found a place that does natural hair. And came up with this wonderful place, my daughter got a Silk press and clipped ends. And the stylist was Lucinda J. And she were wonderful. This was my daughter first time being in a hair salon. And that's because I've always did her hair , so this was More special for me to allow someone else in my daughter's head. I appreciate how Lucinda J. took care of my daughter's hair carefully.
I've been going here since August to get my hair tied into locs, and Tomeka G. (who my brother recommended to me) is an amazing loctician and the open I'd give the most props. Even though my hair was very short when first starting out, she still did a great job at tying it and I've been satisfied with the result with every visit. It's a bit on the expensive side, but you def get what you pay for.
I’m writing this review after sitting with my experience for about a month or so, and unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend this salon or the stylist I worked with, Awa S. Before my appointment, I called to ask if a wash and detangling were included in the service and was told yes by the guy at the front desk. However, once I was already seated in the wash chair, Awa stopped and asked if my hair was detangled. When I said no because I was told it was included she informed me it would be an additional $30. This should have been clearly communicated beforehand, not once I was already in the chair. From the start of the service, the stylist appeared rushed and visibly annoyed, which made the experience uncomfortable especially for a first time client. I didn’t feel welcomed or given time to check my hair properly before leaving. I also want to note that I showed Awa an exact reference photo and clearly asked for small two strand twists with square parts, so my expectations were communicated CLEARLY. There was also confusion with my appointment timing and deposit. When I was discussing my booking, I was told a slot was available and then shortly after told it was no longer available, which pushed my appointment back by an hour. At checkout, I confirmed multiple times that my deposit was already paid, yet I was still charged the full amount. I didn’t notice until I reviewed my receipt later. While the deposit was eventually refunded via Zelle, it added to the overall frustration. I paid around $279 for this service. After getting my first retwist, the issues with my starter locs became very clear. The parts are uneven especially along the middle part and the number of locs is not balanced on each side of my head. I’ve included photos taken immediately after leaving the salon and after my first retwist, where the imperfections are even more noticeable. I’ll now have to find another stylist and pay to have my starter locs redone. For such an important service, I’d recommend paying a little extra and going elsewhere, or at least being extremely cautious about which stylist you choose here.
I’m very grateful for the service at Harlem Natural Hair Salon! After reading various reviews around the area, I decided to come here for my starter locs four months ago, as well as a color treatment. I have returned each month for my retwist. They have enough appointments open to accommodate my busy schedule, but the place is never empty. They are timely and send reminders in advance which I find really helpful and professional. Lucinda has been taking amazing care of my hair! I appreciate how friendly, professional, and knowledgeable she is. Harlem hair is definitely my go to spot, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Jasmine is truly amazing! She explains everything thoroughly and makes sure you understand exactly what your hair needs. Her customer service and professionalism are unmatched. My silk press lasted well over two weeks, and my hair is the healthiest it has ever been. I always leave her chair feeling confident and taken care of. Highly recommend!
I had a mixed experience at the salon, mainly due to the attitude of my stylist, Amanda. I initially visited for a silk press after combing out my locs. However, Amanda wasn't very pleasant or welcoming during our first meeting. After examining my hair, she expressed doubt about whether I could achieve a silk press due to its condition, and her disdain was quite apparent. After blow-drying my hair, I could see the damage and agreed to cut it off. We had some back and forth, but I eventually asked her to try to pull out my natural curls. Once she did, I felt a bit better about the visit. However, my main issue was her lack of care. I mentioned that I had been locked for over 20 years and that making this change was anxiety-inducing for me. It was only then that she showed a hint of compassion. The takeaway from this experience is that if you're promoting your salon as a natural hair specialist, the stylists should genuinely show compassion and care for their clients. Initially, I felt like just another customer rather than someone deserving of consideration. Additionally, I found the services to be overpriced. I left feeling okay, but I ended up going to a barber for a precise cut on the sides and back. Now, I love my hair, but it’s disappointing that I had to seek elsewhere. Kindness matters.
When I tell you I’ve been searching high and low for a natural hairstylist for a long time , I’ve beeeenn searching. I’m so happy I finally found someone. Amanda is an amazing hairstylist. She’s a wealth of information. I had so many misconceptions about my hair, that she was patient enough to walk me through and guide me on the next steps of my journey . This two stand twist are neat and shows a lot of growth I didn’t think I had. The other ladies was so accommodating and wonderful too talk too. Thank you so much for getting me the right track Amanda! Already rescheduled
