# Review of Ken at Cha Cha's Salon Walking through Cha Cha's doors on Willy Street in Madison, you won't find stylists in matching uniforms. Instead, you'll see artists wearing whatever suits their individual personalities. Based on their profiles, I found Ken right away—and he truly is the Da Vinci of hair styling. While skateboarding was his first love, Ken discovered his passion for hair cutting and never looked back. Seeking to perfect his craft, he studied the Vidal Sassoon method of cutting and became both an apprentice and later an educator. I was initially apprehensive stepping into this creative atmosphere, but I trusted Ken's impressive bio. He absolutely did not disappoint, and I knew I could depend on his honest approach. Some stylists tell you what they think you want to hear—not Ken. I actually laughed out loud when I showed him a picture of a potential look and he simply said, "No, I will not do that." He then explained why, leading to a thoughtful discussion about what I really wanted in a haircut. We enjoyed a two-hour conversation covering everything from philosophy to the difference between art and craft, and why he genuinely loves his work. Ken is the ultimate artist of his craft, and I can't wait for my next visit with this zen master of haircutting! My husband's first words when he saw me were "Kick ass!" Annemarie is simply fabulous at doing nails. She is so warm and welcoming, and has an eye for detail. I always looks forward to visiting her, chatting, or relaxing and watching whatever fun show she puts on in the background. Got a haircut by Ken. He was very attentive however the haircut was not good. Got a cut by a different stylist and wanted it fixed but he went way too short, cut too much into the bangs so they’re thin and spaced. Have been wearing hats 😕 He’s a nice guy just not the best cut, especially for the pricing

I’m here to add to the already extensive positive reviews for Ken! I’m realizing I probably have never had a good haircut until I started seeing Ken! He’s incredibly knowledgeable and is dedicated to giving you a cut that looks amazing and doesn’t require excessive styling work. Love his approach, can’t recommend enough.

I would not go here if you have curly hair. Stylist just stared at me when I walked in, then commented on the interaction being awkward as if it’s normal to not greet a customer. He ripped through the tangles in my hair, then essentially told me "I got what I asked for" when the cut was finished. Will be wearing an updo until it grows out. Couldn’t even be bothered to dry or style it after the cut. Update: it’s 3 months later and I still can’t wear my hair down.

I can't recommend Ken enough! I love his methodical almost analytical approach to cutting hair. I'm torn on even writing this because he's such a treasure!! 1. I felt that my hair wasn't working for me and I expressed what I saw when I looked at my hair. Ken was attentive and explained why I didn't like my hair style. 2. I asked for shorter face framing layers and instead of just doing what I asked, he explained how my wave pattern would not work with the length I wanted. (I'm so happy I listened to him because he was right and my hair lays beautifully) 3. He made my hair as easy as possible to maintain. I shower, throw some cream in it and let it dry. (Literally today I got drenched and my hair dried looking great) 4. He asked to cut my hair while wearing headphones. Initially I thought it was odd request, but it ended up being almost meditative. I can't express how relaxed it made me feel.

I got my long, curly hair cut by Gen and it was easily the best haircut I've ever gotten! My hair fell in gorgeous tendrils and the curls are so much better now! Gen is incredibly knowledgable about hair--she told me that the current line of haircare that I was using was likely at fault for my scalp issues, and it turned out that was indeed the problem. She also told me about a fantastic line of haircare that I started using and saw instant results with. Thank you Gen!
