Alyssa Reyes

I waited several weeks before writing this because I wanted to be sure I was responding based on the outcome, and unfortunately the outcome confirmed my concerns. I came in on January 10 for what I confirmed beforehand as a trim or haircut. I was charged $75 and tipped $15. I was very clear that I am actively trying to grow my hair out and that hair health was my priority. This stylist had previously told me to come in every eight weeks. I came in at ten weeks, and instead of a professional consultation, I was told my hair looked fine and that I did not really need to be there. That immediately made me feel uncomfortable and like I was an inconvenience rather than a client who followed the guidance I was given. From the beginning of the appointment, I felt rushed, discouraged, and unwelcome. I was repeatedly told my hair was very dry, which I understand and was open to addressing, but no real solutions were offered. The wash felt incomplete, there was little to no conditioning, and I was placed under heat with barely any heat protectant, oils, or protective products. This was especially concerning given how much emphasis was placed on my hair being dry and the amount of experience and education that is advertised. During the service, the stylist stated that she could not get a certain section in the back of my hair straight and struggled to properly bump the ends. I was genuinely shocked to hear this, especially at a salon that presents itself as multicultural. This was difficult to reconcile with the salon’s own portfolio, which shows many bobs and styles on clients with my same hair texture that appear polished and properly finished. I was enthusiastic about my appointment and tried to ask questions about my hair, but the stylist appeared disinterested and disengaged. My concerns were brushed off, and I was made to feel like I was annoying for wanting to talk about my hair rather than supported or educated. The cut itself was unfinished. My hair was still damp when I got home, the shape was uneven and choppy, the style was not completed, and despite asking for enough to be cut to support healthy growth, very little was actually done. In the weeks following, my hair continued to deteriorate to the point that I had to cut over an inch off myself and spend additional money correcting what should have been handled properly during this appointment. I ultimately did more at home to restore my hair than was done during a $90 salon visit. Given the level of experience, education, and branding that is claimed, this result is unacceptable. Trust is everything when it comes to hair, and this experience showed a lack of care, professionalism, and follow through. I do not leave reviews lightly, but people who value hair health, communication, and being treated with respect deserve transparency.

I’ve been going to Mrs Tomeka consistently since May of last year and I get the best results every time. She cares a lot about the health of my hair so she’s always advising me on what I should do to keep it that way. Her salon is very clean and the environment is always very welcoming. I’d recommend everyone to go to her! she also has very reasonable prices.

I've been coming to Tomeka for 5 years now and refuse to go anywhere else, despite not living in Jacksonville. I currently live in California and come back to Florida about every 6 months for a refresh. I find her prices to be fair and the experience to be enjoyable, which is why I keep coming back. I have referred my friends of all hair textures (white, black, and asian)to give her a visit, and I have not yet gotten poor feedback. Tomeka is highly experienced in her craft and it shows in her work, specially when it comes to color. She has also taken the time to educate me on how to care for my colored treated hair, so I can maintain my results until I can make my way back to Jacksonville.

I've been coming here for a few years now for a Brazilian blowout. I did a lot of research and tried a few places before here, and haven't gone anywhere since. My hair is the healthiest it's ever been since I started with the Brazilian blowouts. It's definitely a long term investment! I wash my hair and it air dries straight. Less heat = healthier long hair. Highly reccomend!

I can’t speak highly enough of this salon. Blueleaf is the definition of perfection when it comes to haircutting, coloring, braiding and extension. I’ve been getting compliments all day today on my social media for the sleek hair look and hair cut. I have VERY thick hair and it’s very hard to manage, Tomeka was able to sleek my hair down. Her process was also very delicate. I have curly hair and she was gentle in blow drying and styling. Tomeka is an absolute professional and takes care of you 100%.. I highly recommend!
