Hair In Motion

The ladies here are very nice but they are not at all experienced with asian hair. I called ahead of time to ask if they had experience with asian hair and they were very confident in cutting it. I told them how I wanted my hair and specifically told them that barbers in the past had trouble when cutting my hair too short and it sticking up in the back. We discussed and agreed to keep it long on the top but the barber kept cutting and cutting until I saw her make a shocked facial expression. She kept saying that she would fix it and my hair just kept getting shorter and shorter and not at all what I requested. When I told her how I typically style my hair pushing it back she told me that this was not possible and that I should not fight my hair by styling it this way. I have my haircut the same way for years across multiple different barbers without issue. She then proceeded to continue cutting it so that it would lay forward even after I specified not liking it that way. I felt like I was being gaslit into "choosing" my hairstyle as she and the other ladies said how the haircut worked out. I wanted to walk out halfway through but the damage had already been done. At the end she told me she was glad that she was able to give me a great haircut without really acknowledging that this isn't what I wanted. She then told me that I would have to wait 4 months so it could grow out again and then try a different style.

ZERO STAR REVIEW!!! DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU GO TO CASE WESTERN AND/OR ARE BLACK. This was one of the worst salon experiences I’ve ever had. I called ahead and specifically asked if they had experience with Black hair. They said yes, which was a complete lie, just like their cosmetology experience as well. The second I walked in, every stylist stopped and stared at me like I didn’t belong there. The energy was disgusting and uncomfortable from the start. The stylist had no idea what she was doing. She used no heat protectant, tried to straighten my hair while it was still wet, and then had the nerve to say I "didn’t know how to do my own hair." The ignorance was unreal. Let’s be honest, this place is not welcoming to Black clients. It’s full of narrow-minded, untrained stylists who clearly have no respect or understanding for textured hair. The whole experience reeked of microaggressions and subtle racism. Save yourself the time, money, and disrespect. This salon needs more than training, it needs a reality check.

HORRIBLE service. I called ahead of time to ensure that this salon has experience with Black hair, to which I was reassured optimistically. Upon my arrival and throughout the duration of my visit, the stylists utterly DISRESPECTED me, using microaggressive language and even suggesting a chemical straightening treatment all while touching my hair like a foreign, disgusting object. Proceeded to put a FLAT IRON to my WET hair when I requested a blow-out service. It is common knowledge that heat protectant is applied to dry hair before using a straightening tool.

I've been cutting my hair here and the ladies do a great job. Very friendly and family-oriented place. Not sure previous reviewers mentioned racism. Hair cut was $30 and I left $35. Thank you.

they asked me if I wanted to chemically treat my hair. implying my hair had a problem or had damage. it did not, they just took up a ‘challenge’ they weren’t ready for. if you can’t do black hair just say that. DONT GIVE ME HEAT DAMAGE!!
