Mitchell & Co. Salon and Spa

I love Mitchell and co. I’ve been getting my hair done here since August and everyone is always really kind. My stylist is Rachel and I love knowing that she’s really listening to how I can handle taking care of my hair and how I want my hair to make me feel and together with that knowledge we come up with a plan. I’m really excited for my next session and I highly recommend!

I tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt, by going 3 times. The first 2 times were not great… but it was nearby and I was in a pinch. The 3rd time was awful. It took 22 minutes total with wash, cut and dry. With a cost of $86. She commented on how bad my hair was the entire time, to the point where I was pretty embarrassed. I knew my ends were bad, which is why I was there! I don’t have a complicated cut, asked for layers. She cut my inner layer shorter than my outer layer and cut off way more than I wanted. I left so emotional. It has grown out horrendous. It’s been 3 months and it still looks horrible. This has really affected me and my confidence. Hair can be everything! I wish I never came here, this whole thing broke my heart.

UPDATE: The owner of the salon called me to apologize for my experience after I wrote this review. She was able to explain the mistake of the stylist and let me know that she (and the stylist) both felt incredibly bad about what happened. I believe she was genuine and that what happened was a one-time mistake, and does not reflect the overall quality of the salon. It's unfortunate that it happened to me but at the end of the day it's just hair and it grows back. If you are looking at this photo you can see how terrible my experience was with Mitchell & Co. I have gone 3 times, but nothing compares to the haircut I received on my third visit. I asked for a trim of 1-2 inches and NO layers, just straight across with a few face framing pieces. Extremely simple request. The cut itself was fine; the problem came at the end when my stylist was thinning my hair (as I have pretty thick hair). As she was thinning it, she accidentally chopped a few pieces short in the back. (First photo) I didn't notice until I got home and examined closer, (cried), and called back to complain. I returned to the salon that afternoon so a different stylist could attempt to fix her mistake. The new stylist ended up giving me layers in the back to hide the pieces, but it has left me with a uneven chop and was not what I asked for. (Second photo) My original stylist did not realize she had made the mistake during my appointment. I would have felt much better if she saw it in the moment and tried to fix it when I was in for my original appointment. But she said nothing. The new stylist was nice about it when I came back, but I didn't receive any refund offer or discount for what happened on that day. I am usually not the type of person to leave a bad review like this (and I mean no harm in doing so) but I wanted to share my experience, even if it was a one-time mistake. This photo speaks for itself. It has been 3 months since the haircut and unfortunately I am still frustrated with the uneven style and the short pieces that don't seem to be growing back.

This place is the best! I’ve gone to Bobbi for highlights/cuts for years and she always does an amazing job. Love Connie for spray tans as well. Everyone at Mitchell & Co. is super friendly and great at what they do. All-round 10/10!

I’ve been getting my facials at Mitchell & Co and I am beyond satisfied with my results. Connie has worked on my face twice in the last month 1/2 and the facials have helped my acne A LOT! She is very gentle and efficient. She asks all the right questions and recommended products I may need to help with my concerns. I have an upcoming appointment and I’m very excited to get my facial by Connie!

I came here and got a cut and color. I asked for balayage and showed the attached picture. I ended up with what I think is a partial highlight and was charged for a balayage. I am just disappointed because I paid $312 total for a simple haircut, partial highlight and tip. I’ve had balayage done for the past 15 years and this definitely was not a balayage and looks nothing like the inspiration picture I showed. I don’t think it looked bad which is why I’m giving 3 stars I just don’t feel I should have been charged for a service I didn’t receive. I did try to vocalize that this wasn’t the result I expected and I was told I didn’t understand the true meaning of balayage which also didn’t feel great. I really hope this was an isolated incident cause this seems like a great salon from the other reviews but I will not be going back.

I have consistently positive experiences with Bobbi and Connie. Bobbi did a super job getting my color to a lighter brown after a prior salon had made it black. She did this gradually over several visits. I have been seeing Connie nearly 2 decades. She is professional and kind and has helped me recently with acne. Leo does a super job at the shampoo bowl, giving an excellent scalp massage. He is very pleasant to talk to. Kiona has also done my hair a few times and she is very skilled. The location in Lincoln Park is in a well kept neighborhood.
