Mei's Hair Place

Always gives me a great haircut at a great price. I've lived in Chelsea and now Alewife and still will go into the city specifically to get my hair cut, washed, and blow dried here. Can't recommend them enough!

Only one of the two stylists speaks English, but we eventually established what I needed and now I get a great cut every time! I believe both speak Mandarin as well as Cantonese, so if you speak either, you’ll have an easier time communicating than I do. If not, you’ll have to make do with showing pictures or relying on the English speaker to translate. But great quality for the price, very much outweighs the cons.

I absolutely love Mei's. I prefer any of the male stylists, but the occasional women stylists are good too. Good pricing and meticulous cutting. They speak very limited english (close to none) but if you explain to the owner (who is almost always there) in basic words what you need, you will get it done. For example, I went in and told him "straight cut in back, layers in front, short side bangs." I got exactly what I needed. Even better if you have pictures if you can't speak chinese. Edit: still the same. However, I've only seen the owner now. Still meticulous cutting for affordable prices. The owner knows a bit of English as well. I still come here for my haircuts while I still can.

I have never written a review before, but I felt too strongly about my negative experience. While I was at Mei's, the barber spent 15 minutes talking to a friend instead of serving me, his only customer in the shop. When he finally finished his conversation, the barber gave me a dirty barber cloth that a previous customer had used. He proceeded to ignore all of my instructions on how to cut my hair (he decided to go three times shorter than I wanted on the sides and top). This was the result of either poor communication, memory, or care. Maybe he didn't know how to cut hair or just wanted to go rogue. Whichever the case, this is not what you want from a barber. I have been to Mei's before and received average cuts. But I was severely disappointed with this most recent visit and I will not be visiting Mei's again. I warn you against doing so as well, but it's your hair, so proceed at your own risk.

Located near China Town in Boston South end the facility is clean and the haircut includes a hair wash before and afterwards. An interesting alternative to SUPERCUTS. Friendly staff / good hair cut $25 no straight razor or line work here though. Unisex so all welcome.

I've been going to Mei's for the last 4 or 5 years now and they consistently give great haircuts and they have the extra bonus of having the best prices in Boston too.

Wish I took before and after pictures (will come back again and take pics then), but did an amazing job cutting my hair I am ethnically Vietnamese and struggle finding places that cut Asian men hair for an affordable price As of writing this review, men's haircut only was $22 and $25 with washing (recommend getting the wash and cut)
