Customer Reviews
Diaspora Salon has a rating of 4.4 out of 5 based on over 170 reviews on Google
I booked a Curl Discovery Cut priced at $265, nearly $300 after tip, based on how the service is described and marketed: a premium, consultative experience that includes thoughtful shaping, education, and guidance tailored to the client’s curl pattern. That is not what I received. I arrived with long, full, healthy hair that I had spent years growing and caring for. My hair was mid back length, and I communicated clearly that my priority was improving the shape while preserving as much length as possible. I did not request a dramatic cut. Despite this, a significant amount of length was removed, far beyond what was discussed or implied. That loss is permanent. It will take years for my hair to fully recover, and there is nothing that can be done in a follow-up appointment to restore what was taken. Beyond the length loss, the cut itself lacked cohesion. It did not account for the different shrinkage rates across my curl patterns, which range from approximately 3C to 4B, and as a result the shape dried unevenly and poorly. The styling portion of the service further obscured the cut. Extremely heavy product was used, weighing my hair down and masking the actual shape. I was not given meaningful education or instruction on how to achieve my desired style at home, despite this being a central component of what differentiates a Curl Discovery Cut from a standard haircut. I left without clarity on how to properly style my own hair and with a result that looked unintentional and difficult to replicate. In addition, the handling of my hair during the service was uncomfortably rough. In the days following my appointment, I experienced ongoing breakage that I had not been dealing with prior. After the appointment, I attempted to resolve the situation in good faith. The only option offered was an in-person assessment and potential adjustment under the salon’s service guarantee. No refund, partial or otherwise, was considered. Given the extent of the length already removed, the lack of trust created by the initial experience, and the fact that additional cutting could not undo the damage, returning to the same chair did not feel like a meaningful or safe remedy. After my experience, I read additional reviews and noticed a consistent pattern. Multiple clients describe receiving little to no actual consultation or education as part of the Curl Discovery Cut, despite that being a core part of how the service is marketed. Others note difficulty working with looser or mixed curl patterns, overly heavy styling that obscures the cut, failure to account for shrinkage, rough handling during detangling, and breakage following their visit. When concerns are raised, responses from ownership frequently rely on the service guarantee policy rather than acknowledging gaps in execution or offering a proportionate resolution. I am sharing this so future clients can make an informed decision, especially those with long hair, mixed curl patterns, or those seeking true consultation, education, and careful length preservation.
I love coming here. I have been here several times after my partner insisted it was time for hair education. As a mixed woman, my hair texture is something I struggled to maintain and understand. I came to see Leah and all that changed. She shaped and styled my hair, explaining how some of the products I had been using may not be good for my hair and helped me with selecting new products. I knew going in it would be time for a chop but I am in love with my hair. It's been growing healthy, is shiny and soft again. Every time I come here, I am greeted warmly, the conversation is great, and the techs take wonderful care - offering drinks and snacks. They take their time to explain and answer any concern or question I have. The salon is clean, decorated smartly and is always a great experience. Thanks to you, I love my hair again.
This is the best salon for naturally curly/kinky/coily hair. Leah, Ashley, and Andi have been very supportive after I chopped my hair, and Leah's advice has gotten me to a much stronger head of multi-textured Black hair. 11/10; this is my new salon home.
I had an amazing experience at Diaspora’s new Hampden location and can’t wait to go back. I had my first ever Wash & Go service done by Andie, who is the sweetest. The whole visit start to finish was such a vibe!! Easy, free parking… it smelled amazing in the salon… beautiful plants and holiday decor and Christmas music playing. There were also snacks, delicious mimosa and WARM aromatherapy towels for my neck during the whole service!? I felt so relaxed & pampered. Although my silk press (from another salon) gave me a little heat damage, the detox had my curls melting like butter and the final look is amazing, I’m obsessed! I also left with instructions on how to care and refresh it at home. I will be back very soon for my next service!!
The salon is gorgeous and my hair came out better than I imagined. As a curly girl, it has always been a struggle to walk into a salon and feel uneasy, not knowing if I will leave the salon feeling better than I came. The shape and feel of my hair is the best it’s ever been. The Salon decor is intentional, chic and fitting to the name. Very pro black, it was gorgeous, inviting, & very clean. They had snacks and beverages and a thoughtful aromatherapy selection during the wash process. I look forward to coming back and recommending to others. If you are looking for a curly cut, this is definitely your spot!
The atmosphere is so relaxing and enjoyable. I have been there twice and it is just a peaceful place to be. The stylist are very welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and willing to answer your questions. My stylist Yasmine does excellent color. Thank you for the experience.
I have gone to this salon for years. Even though I moved out of state, I still get back here just to get my hair done at Diaspora. Lea is very skilled and friendly. My hair is always perfect when I leave. Great cut and great curls. The salon space is also top notch.
