KRISTEN IS INCREDIBLE🌟🙏🫶🫶 (and thank you Elly for the help during blow dry💖🤗I came to HJem Beauty for a full bleach & tone, and honestly, it’s the best experience I’ve ever had at a salon. Kristen is insanely skilled — she understands Asian hair better than most stylists I’ve met in North America, and she lifted my hair to a clean, even blonde without any brassiness at all. The color is soft, dimensional, and so high-quality that strangers have asked me where I got it done. What impressed me the most wasn’t just the technique, but the attitude. Kristen worked from morning till late afternoon just to finish my hair perfectly, and she never rushed or cut corners. She kept checking on me, made sure I was comfortable the whole time, and even offered to grab something for me to eat because I hadn’t had lunch. She genuinely cares about her clients. The salon itself is super clean, bright, and smells amazing. Everyone there is friendly, and the overall vibe is very relaxing. If you’re in Ann Arbor and want real blonde, high-level balayage, or precise color work, this is the place. Absolutely worth it. I’m incredibly grateful and will definitely be coming back.

Mary did an excellent job with my medium length curly hair! From the moment you walk in you know you are in good hands. They offer you a complimentary beverage and they do a coat check as well. Mary’s station was in the basement next to the hair salon and even though you would expect it to be a gloomy down there they kept the space brightly lit and still looks as polished as it does upstairs. The receptionist at the front was very sweet and checked me in and out with efficiency. All staff members clearly care about the space because they were cleaning the wet floor after a few guests had walked in with wet shoes from the snow. Mary herself is a sweetheart and cut my hair with confidence. Overall, great experience I can see why so many people recommend it!

I had an amazing experience with Rikki! She was kind, professional, and truly listened to my concerns before getting started. She took her time with my cut, color, and highlights, making sure everything turned out exactly the way I wanted. Even though I was from out of town and a first-time client, she made me feel like I’d been coming to her for years. I never once felt rushed—she genuinely cared about the result and the experience. I absolutely love how my hair turned out and would highly recommend Rikki to anyone looking for a talented stylist who goes above and beyond! I just wish I lived closer, but will book an appointment when I am back in Ann Arbor.

I have been seeing Alyssa for years, even before she became apart of hJEM. I’d follow her anywhere, but I’m so happy she’s apart of the hJEM beauty fam. Everyone who works there is just as great as Alyssa, friendly, passionate, and so loving! It is very clear that they just want anyone who walks through that door to feel beautiful and loved, and they do a great job at it everyday!

Such a great salon! Today was my 3rd time getting my color and cut by Rikki, and I walk out every time loving my hair and the whole experience. Rikki is so sweet and talented. She makes me feel so comfortable. I have no worries that she will execute exactly what I want. The staff is so friendly and welcoming.

When you walk in the space is very pretty and they offer you a drink but that's about it. My wife came in for extensions. We drove 2 hours for just a consultation. A different stylist told us she didn't install them but could color match them. We felt it was necessary to find a stylist here that could install since that was the main goal. It cost $800+ not including a $100+ tip but that was to be expected. She had the extensions and her hair toned to match but it didn't last long. In the past, we've had box dye that lasts longer. Natural black hair isn't hard to maintain. The extension was showing at the crown of her head. Two framing pieces of blonde was put in and although it burned her forehead and left scabs, we didn't say anything because it was what we asked for knowing having naturally dark hair and going to blonde is difficult- We could overlook the fact the blonde was two different shades even with purple shampoo because we were simply happy it was blonde even if we achieved a lighter blonde at home with 20 vol and no burning in the past. I just wanted my wife to enjoy a salon experience. What is hard to overlook is that we bought 3 wefts of hair. The first time only two was installed by reccomendation but the ends were thin so we wanted the third weft. The second time, she corrected the band showing at the crown but she ran out of time and only two were moved up- no 3rd weft installation. It feels like we paid for hair we did not get to use. I understand you have to trim it a little to blend it, but a lot was taken off of the extensions. Additionally, the hair was dropped on the ground and still installed. My wife was told the next appointment the third weft would be installed. We/she usually get confirmation texts where you have to respond for confirmation but suddenly she did not get a reminder text for her appointment this time. It just seems they don't want our business. My wife didn't want to make this review because she didn't want to upset the one relative that enjoys it here but I will make it so other people know what they could experience should they want these services. I don't want to put the stylist name because a relative enjoys her work- but we had reccomended HJEM to two other relatives. One got her hair cut way too short- and the other did not get the desired "wolf cut" She wanted. So 3 out of 4 of us have not enjoyed our experience by multiple different stylists. I guess it just depends on who you are. We tried to keep coming back but every experience had something not enjoyable about it. The salon itself is nice but the technique is just ok. Very expensive for what you get.

My 9 year old grand daughter and I, love the upbeat talented salon staff. From the first contact with the front desk by phone or person, you know it is comfortable and welcoming. While I have the stylist who best fits my needs, I also have another stylist there who knows my hair. I’ve never left there not liking my hair thanks to Jess and Hannah. My grand daughter enjoys her stylist as well. She ask me to always make her appointment with him. Eric has the best blowout skills in Ann Arbor. My grand daughter has curly hair, and he knows how to make it behave. There are lots of talented stylists to meet every hair need from cuts to product recommendations.
