We visited Bonita’s today for the first time- both my daughter and I had full service of color, cut and styling. Wonderful experience! The salon is calm, fun, both Emily and Michelle did great, listening to our needs and Inspos! We are hooked!
I want to share my positive experience with Salon Bonita. I have been a happy customer for many years. Amy, the owner, consistently provides an excellent look for me. I appreciate her skill in coloring and cutting my curly hair. The atmosphere is always friendly and relaxing, which makes every visit enjoyable.
I recent got my hair cut at this salon and have been hesitant to share this. I've never reviewed a single establishment. I chose this place because I had seen some reviews from curly haired people saying good things and I have thick tightly curly hair and wanted a pixie cut. I called and specifically asked for someone who is experience with naturally curly hair. Now I feel like they just gave me the next opening since I got in the following day. The stylist who I won't name was really nice and I believe in her abilities.. for straight haired people. She kept me turned from the mirror or I night have caught is sooner but she did the thing you should do with curly haired people.. pull it straight then cut it. You can't do that with us, and I can't believe she didn't realize that. And by the end it just felt like she was just trying to chop my curls away instead of work with my curl pattern. When she spun me around I wanted to cry, but didn't confront her because I half expected it. That frequently happens at salons to me. I should have asked for a dry cut. I should have asked for watch. I should have been more observant and communicative. I should have confronted her and asked not to pay. But I just thanked her payed and tipped her well, (She did spend and hour and half on me) and left. I guess I would just caution curly haired folks to communicate more than I did. I'm the expert on my own hair and should have trusted my gut and spoken up. Thanks all.
I have had multiple great experiences here with Jaystan! The salon is cute and welcoming and great prices too!! I drive from Des Moines just to come back here. Highly recommend!
I had my hair colored at a hair school and unfortunately it turned out very bronzey instead of the blonde I wanted. I went to Salon Bonita in Ames and saw Michelle, and she completely transformed my hair! She took out all the orange undertones and gave me the beautiful, lighter blonde I was hoping for. Michelle was kind, professional, and really listened to what I wanted. She worked her magic and my hair looks so much healthier, brighter, and more natural now (see my before and after photos!). I couldn’t be happier with the results. If you’re looking for someone who knows color correction and can give you exactly what you ask for, Michelle is amazing. I highly recommend her!
Everytime I go in there it is so welcoming. Not only do I love talking to Ari my hairstylist, but the other people in there too. It is the perfect environment, you feel so warm and safe. Plus I have always loved my hair afterwards!
I had my bangs cut recently by Michelle. I asked for curtain bangs. She didn’t spend much time cutting or styling them compared to the rest of my hair. When she styled the bangs, they didn’t look as wonky as the pics I have included. Taking a closer look, they are extremely uneven, unblended and definitely not curtain bangs. The rest of my hair turned out fine from what I can tell. I was told that I would be welcomed back in should I want anything fixed. However, I don’t want the exact same thing to happen in the effort of fixing it, by just making it shorter. If you’re looking for a haircut with no bang trim, they are okay!!
