Kyaw Karen Market

Great selection of many Karen (K'nyaw) + Burmese groceries, produce, and snacks. I meant to post my review earlier, but the cool experience stuck with me even now. They got premade hot food & a separate menu of homemade soups prepared in huge soup cauldrons. I got some freshly made Kyay Oh, a Burmese soup with organ meats, brassica greens, and rice noodles, as well as a spicy sauce with green Thai chili peppers and soy sauce. I ordered it to go, and appreciated how they took care to put the noodles and greens in separate containers, preserving the texture of both noodles and greens. They made sure to make the soup nice and hot—it was still very hot when I arrived at my friend's home. The soup was amazing, and I loved the flavor of the spicy sauce, which elevated the flavor. Use the Kyay Oh soup's sauce in moderation if you have "Minnesota-level" spicy tolerance! In the store, a wide variety of snacks popular with the Karen community lined the shelves, as well as premade hot food, some of which I haven't tried yet. A large variety of specialty Karen ingredients and produce filled shelves and refrigerators, including maprang fruit (Bouea macrophylla) and Karen hot chili pepper sauces not well known outside of the Karen refugee community. Maprang fruit tends to be a bit expensive in Minnesota, so I didn't buy it, but I may buy some to "treat myself" someday. I also saw items which reflect Karen culture, including traditional instruments. This store is a hidden gem in Saint Paul, and has a great old-school feel with great selection! If anyone wants to explore Karen culture and Burmese ethnic minority culture more deeply, this store is a great place explore with your appetite. This store deserves to be more widely know, along with Original Karen Market on Arcade Street.

Went here for the first time. Lady started our order never finish it and skip me to go do some other orders. Never said anything to me just ignored me.
