Key Food Urban Marketplace

Have you seen the prices at Key Food lately? It’s absurd. Many of their items are more expensive than the neighborhood pharmacies! The Oatly milk cartons are almost always in terrible shape — swollen, fermented, clearly left unrefrigerated at some point. And if you dare to mention it to the manager, he just points to the expiration date like that magically excuses neglecting basic food safety. Completely clueless about how perishables should be handled. A box of Weetabix cereal? $7.59. Horizon milk? Nearly ten bucks. It’s official: gentrification is complete in the East Village when Whole Foods starts looking like the cheaper option.

never thought I’d ever give a grocery store a bad review but cashiers are consistently & incredibly rude - always give you attitude. I definitely don’t expect amazing customer service in nyc but only supermarket that sticks out in such ways. Prices are reasonable though sometimes is food past best by dates & fruits can be rotten (but good luck telling the staff). Shopping here always reminds me of why people don’t shop at Key Foods.

This location has the best florist. The arrangements always look so special with the unique palette and interesting mix of blooms. This spot has been my go to flower-shop since moving to East Village and I reckon I’ll keep coming back even if I leave the neighborhood. I hope they keep the guys working here because they truly are unparalleled artists!

Variety of products. Cheap & great quality. A great place to save your money. If something is out of stock, you can get a rain check for the sale price, which expires in 60 days. Everything is fresh here.

Unrealized potential is arguably the most frustrating thing in the world. Freddy Adu comes to mind. Bol Bol, Michael Beasley, Josh Rosen, Greg Oden, and Matt Lienart are all on the dome as well. It’s all right there, but for one reason or another, it just doesn’t come together. All this to say, in my eternal journey to find the best grocery store rotisserie chicken, Key Food is a bird that came highly recommended. And I see why. This had all the makings of a great tissi: good looking crispy skin, $8.99 for a whole chicken, and came in a container as opposed to a plastic bag. It passed the eye test with flying colors. It just didn’t live up to the hype. It was the only lukewarm chicken that I’ve had on this journey. It was still a good chicken. The breast was decently tender, good flavor, crispy skin, but the leg was just dry. I’ve never seen a dry leg. I needed water after every bite, which is crazy. I think it was just overcooked. I still gave it a 7/10. Maybe a 7 is too high, maybe I just can’t see past the potential, but my heart is saying 7. This is completely gross and unacceptable. The bakery items are moldy and the groceries are old. I bought some croissants from Key food and only saw they were moldy when I got home! Beware if you shop here and make sure you inspect everything you buy carefully.
