Small but mighty Japanese supermarket where you can get groceries, entree, and sushi. Was really impressed by the selection; finding items that I have not seen in other Japanese supermarket or outside of Japan before. A worthwhile stop especially if you are looking for snacks and Japanese beauty/skin care products!
Updated: My family has shopped in the W56th Store 2 - 3 times a month for years. Yesterday, I purchased three pieces of salmon sashimi from this store, each priced at $34.99/lb and labeled as weighing 0.27 lbs. Each package was charged at $9.44. After walking home, I thought it was an odd coincidence that all weighed the same. So I carefully weighed each of the pieces using a precise kitchen scale. (see attached photos) Following were the actual weights: Piece 1: 111g Piece 2: 113g Piece 3: 108g Since 0.27 lbs equals approximately 122.5 grams, each piece was noticeably underweight, despite being labeled and priced as 0.27 lbs. Based on the per-pound price, I was overcharged by approximately $2.71 in total. The owner provided the explanation below, asked for me to travel back to the store so they could refund me ($2.71).
Compact, super convenient Japanese grocery store with ready made bento and sushi to go with what I call "micro" sizing and pricing so it's perfect for singletons or small parties to grab a bite and necessities on the fly. Asian has a saying that even though a sparrow is small, it's all fully equipped and ready to go. This is such a capable and versatile shop. Hands down a great shop and highly recommended 😍. Plus yummy fresh sushi with a small side of tobiko roe 👍. Perfect size without over buying and quenched the cravings ... Hit the spot🤣
This store may look small but they actually stock a lot of items! Love that they sell a wide variety of ready made foods like onigiri, sushi, sashimi, bentos etc. I visited the store in the evening & I can imagine the foods during the day would be stocked up even more! I only bought snacks & drinks from here, as the drink prices are great.
This was the rudest Japanese store I’ve ever been to in the world, no exaggeration. I had marked this place on Google Maps for quite a while because the reviews were great, and I was really looking forward to visiting. Today, I happened to be nearby, so I finally went in and bought a variety of snacks. I also needed a nail clipper at that time, but the only one I saw was for babies. So, I asked a store clerk—a Japanese lady with yellow hair—if they had nail clippers. She responded in a very impatient and rude tone, simply saying "Yes." I then pointed out that the one I found was for babies and asked if they had one for adults. She became visibly annoyed and aggressively led me to where the baby nail clippers were, and said rudely "This is for babies." I said I know that’s why I’m looking for an adult one. She impatiently walked me over to another shelf, showing me a different product, saying "This is expensive." I told her, "I know this brand." She just repeated "This is expensive" back to me and walked away. I didn’t say anything further, bought the nail clipper, and left. I have no idea why she was so hostile, but I’m never coming back to this store again.
this cashier is completely rude and unprofessional. I felt like she almost wanted to beat me up just bc i have a little problem w my card. She shown a clear annoyed attitude and very nasty expression. This is on April23rd around 1:15pm the cashier is hispanic
Small but well stocked and reasonable prices. Close to central park if you want to grab some sushi and snacks for a picnic in central park.
