Katagiri Japanese Grocery 59th Street Store

This is a great little grocery store where you can buy Japanese food and small items. We stop here often to pick up sauces, mochi, meats, fish and lots of other goodies. On this trip we only bought mochi. They did not have the package we usually buy but this one was delicious. It is a busy and small store. Noodle cooking in the front and meats and fish in the back. We love it here. Only place around here to buy Japanese items. It is on a very busy 59th street near second Avenue and the Roosevelt Island Trolley.

The employees here are incredibly kind and truly such a pleasure. Small store with a great variety of options . The ramen is my go-to, it's fresh and delicious, I always grab some when I'm in the area.

Stores like that are essential! Beautiful in its simplicity. It’s like a teleport to another country. Ready to eat food if affordable, delicious and fresh. They have spices, snacks, frozen ramen, great variety of fresh noodles, fish sausages, sweets, fresh vegetables and meat, tea drinks. They even have home goods there! Prices are reasonable. Love this little baby Japanese oasis. I’ll be back for sure 👍

Wow wow wow! This place offers so much Japanese groceries, and at very affordable prices! Came in for some tea, and then I saw they also offer freshly made ramen, which looked tasty! I’ve visited two other Japanese marts in the city and this one was by far the most economical!

This grocery store has amazingly perfect Japanese foods, snacks and beers. It’s a very convenient place to buy all your favorite Japanese stuff in the city. You can also have a bowl of ramen or buy a bento here! Love this place!

This is one of the few grocery stores in NYC that offers high-quality, Japan-imported fresh foods at reasonable prices. They also carry a variety of Japanese small dishes—like ankimo, rice balls, tamagoyaki, and sashimi—with restaurant-level quality. It’s the only place I’m willing to take a 20-minute subway ride just to grocery shop.

Been going for years - love this place. However recently the Onigiri have really dropped off. Last few times I've had them, the rice is much more gelatinous and the filling is just pressed onto the side, not inside the rice. Feels more mass produced than the rest of their delicious offerings.
