I went there because people told me they sell items close to the expiration date at a discount. I didn’t think to check carefully and ended up buying an ice cream. When I got home, I realized it had expired almost eight months ago. This is a milk-based product that’s been expired for more than half a year—it was made back in 2023! I honestly don’t know how they can legally sell this, or how the brand would be okay with it. I understand the idea of reducing food waste, but eight months past expiration is unacceptable. Are we supposed to believe this ice cream sat in a freezer for over a year without being sold, only to end up here? And even if that’s true, how can anyone be sure the cold chain wasn’t broken at some point in the two and a half years since it was manufactured? It feels very questionable. I expected items close to expiration—or maybe even a week past—but not something expired by eight months.
I love Esh's because, not only can you find cheap food here, but also all the weird food that didn't sell well. The store is immaculate, staff is friendly, and you don't have to smash the piggy bank to get groceries for a family. Despite most of the food being past it's "expiration" date, I haven't found anything to be bad (as in rotten). I have found a couple weird things that didn't taste great, but that's half the fun of trying new things! It's worth checking Esh's out!
I love the selection, but I wish they kept the website updated so you could see what's in stock. Also. I have accidentally bought expired meat in the room temperature section of shelves. It was shelf stable, but should have been frozen BEFORE the expiration date, or taken off the shelves. So be mindful of that, and you can find some tasty deals.
Esh’s is a wonderful place for affordable groceries. The staff is so incredibly helpful and kind. With how expensive meat has gotten, buying it frozen from Esh’s has saved us hundreds. We have never once had an issue with freshness after defrosting, not even freezer burn. Their cheese selection is fantastic (hard cheese doesn’t have an expiration date. It’s good until you see mold. Until then, it’s just aging lol) I can make a whole, beautiful charcuterie board for like $10, if I were to get the same thing at King Soopers, it would be $50. The only thing I avoid is expired crackers/chips, just because I’ve noticed a little staleness in a few packages. Still edible, but not my favorite. I highly recommend going here with an open mind and you will be amazed at the savings and quality.
Best place ever. It sucks that items aren't consistent so you have to check periodically. But that's kinda the fun of it. I always find amazing deals on something new I've wanted and therev is always awesome natural medicines/remedies.
Friendly and reasonable prices, very clean, your go to stop for great deals
Esh's is a discount grocery store so they have good prices, very good prices, and some great prices. And the items stocked vary from week to week. Check out the frozen sections. They often have unusual items. They have long aisles of chips, crackers, and cookies. For unusual items how about: Bacon maple flavor carmels? Or several different brands of Italian sausage? Both frozen and fresh.
