Customer Reviews
Kobe Mini Mart has a rating of 4.6 out of 5 based on over 199 reviews on Google
It offers a lot of Japanese goods that I don’t see often, conveniently in one place. The store itself is fine for its inventory. However, one cashier on the stationery level was incredibly unwelcoming, that I felt the need to mention it in a review. I understand that there might be a lot of shoplifters or maybe the return of the students was overwhelming, but I felt that I was treated like a potential thief who wanted to steal a roll of post-it notes that cost less than $10. (I’m dressed nicely too…and I’m 34, totally not a student.) I just wanted to get nice post-it notes for my cocktail books while my niece-in-law got erasers. All the post-it notes were—to my surprised confusion— locked, so the cashier had to unlock them for me to even get a closer look. Were they paper, or plastic—could I write on them or not? The ones I was interested in were above eye level, so I couldn’t tell. It was a unique "compact roll" type. The cashier unlocked it, took the items, and just said, the items will be ready for you at the front. I asked if I could look at them to see the design and such. I was at the front, and I felt like she was watching me, as if I would, at any moment, shove these under-$10 post-it’s into my bag and book it. Other customers needed to check out. She asked if she could help them, and I naturally agreed. However, she was pulling the post-it roll out of my hands (as if I’d steal it while she was tending to the other customers?!), and I asked if I could continue reading how it worked😭?!?! I felt so uncomfortable, that I just gave up on trying to figure it out, and settled for getting a back up set of standard post-its along with the roll-type. A weird experience. I’m so sorry if you had a bad experience with shoplifters, or I dunno—if you judged me for being annoyed that my spouse didn’t want to help me by asking you to unlock them for me while I studied the post-its (so I waited for him, staring at them forever)… but. That was so uncomfortable for me. I’m sorry if I did something wrong, but that felt really undeserved. I’ve never experienced this in my life. 🙁
Japanese supermarket that has 3 floors, one for snacks , drinks some anime, bottom floor was more of manga, figurines, gundam, t shirts , models ect , top floor was gachipon , model anime and mystery boxes . Definitely a nice place to checkout when you are in the area
Kobe Mini Mart in downtown Davis is a Japanese Store that has a little of everything Japan. There are 3 floors of Japanese offerings: - 1st floor carries snacks, candy, food, art supplies, Anime items, keychains, convenience items and kitchen items. - 2nd floor are the gatcha toys, blind boxes, collectibles as well as the learning center where you can take Japanese lessons. - Basement is the Kobe Underground where you can find cosmetics, skin care products, Manga, books, stuffed animals, scale model kits, t-shirts and tote bags. If you are looking for something Japanese, check out Kobe Mini Mart where you can find a little Japan in Davis, CA.
Adorable shop thats WAY larger in person (apparently its 3 stories?). Cute selection of stationary and anime merch, as well as snacks and drinks. Definitely looking forward to going back in!
The vibe is cool the downstairs gundam section has good selection HOWEVER everything is extremely marked up ... im not talking 5%-10% im talking 30-40% ... they literally have the exact same gundam kits for fair prices two blocks away at akiba... save your money and don't get taken advantage of like I did .
if you’re into manga/anime, this store probably has something for you! But I wanted to note that the staff may not be particularly helpful/ welcoming. I’m not someone who knows much about manga, but came in looking for a gift for a friend! When I tried asking the employee for help, she told me in an annoyed voice that what I was looking for was "probably here, go look around and see" when I’d already explained I was really unfamiliar with the characters and was hoping she could point me somewhere in particular. Other customers were really sweet though, and helped me out!
Came here on New Year’s Eve to buy a gift and had a very disappointing experience. The woman at the front desk refused to let my elderly mother sit on a chair that was available. Later, while I was browsing items toward the back of the store, she came over to scold me, saying the area was not accessible to customers—despite there being no signage indicating this. She mentioned she could help retrieve items from that section, but instead simply closed off the area without offering any assistance or asking what I needed. Throughout our visit, her demeanor felt unwelcoming and judgmental, as if she suspected us of doing something wrong. In past visits, a kind and helpful man was usually at the front desk, and those experiences were completely different. I hope he returns, as this visit was unfortunately very off-putting.
