MI Skin Dermatology Center: Melda Isaac, MD has a rating of 4.6 out of 5 based on over 104 reviews on Google
I have been a patient of Dr Isaac’s for years and could not be more pleased with the results that I’ve had. She and her staff are incredibly professional, knowledgeable, kind and talented at what they do. Over the years, I’ve done many different laser treatments as well as Botox and fillers, and receive compliments on my skin all of the time. If you’re going for a more natural aesthetic, and want to look like the best version of yourself, this is your place. I won’t go anywhere else.
Dr. Melda Isaac is a rude and unprofessional dermatologist who resorts to demeaning potential patients instead of using the empathy and compassion that doctors pledge to practice in the Hippocratic Oath. I had come into her office hoping to address the shallow acne scarring on my cheeks remaining after years of cystic acne. I was hoping to get bellafill, which is a long term filler specifically for acne scars. At the time, I unfortunately had overfilled lips from an unrelated medical spa (I have since found my current top notch medical spa and gotten them dissolved). She criticized my lips and said that I wasn’t a good aesthetic fit for her practice. Not only were her comments super hurtful, they were extremely unprofessional. My lips weren’t even the subject of the consultation! Obviously, it sucks when a top med spa doesn’t do a good job with your lip filler, but it’s even worse when a doctor belittles you for it. She then mentioned her ex husband knew someone who worked for Bellafill and that it wasn’t worth it. While this may be true, why not suggest other cutting edge treatments that would address the scarring instead of getting frustrated that she couldn’t administer me Bellafill and then criticize my appearance? I can see why this dermatologist is divorced since she’s so comfortable insulting potential patients. She then proceeded to push an outdated and overpriced laser package. Typical money grab from an uninspired derm. I have since found a top notch medical spa in Arlington, Virginia that has up to date laser technology that has DRASTICALLY improved my shallow scarring, and every RN and aesthetician there treats me with respect and compassion. We spend hard earned money on our looks and we deserve to be treated well. The only good thing about MI Skin is the lovely aesthetician who performed the Vbeam laser on me. She is kind and great at her craft. If you are suffering from acne scarring, please reconsider this practice. I’m posting this months after the fact because my skin looks amazing now and I’ve not forgotten my horrible experience at this practice.
Not my first review of Dr. Yanes, but I had to come back and sing his praises again. I came in for my annual fraxel laser and asked him to take a look at a cut I got on my foot that morning. He immediately put stitches in the cut and recommended I get TDAP right away - said I could call him if any sign of infection came up. I’m so so glad I made the switch from a med spa over a year ago. Nothing can replace the true expertise and care of a doctor like him! 5 stars forever.
Everyone in the office is nice and helpful. Saw Sheda for a laser treatment and she is amazing. She recommends best laser treatments and explains everything.
Please do your research, save your money, and do NOT go here! I'm literally writing my first review to save others from being SWINDLED like I was. This derm practice purposefully misleads its patients. I was lied to about what the cost of my treatment would be. Their website fails to include any prices for their services (which should have been the first RED FLAG because this is literally required under federal law and DC consumer protection law for most providers even for cosmetic treatments). When I called to ask about the cost of the v beam laser therapy, I was told by the person on the line "I don't have the prices in front of me." You might as well not work there are that point-- it is extremely incompetent to not have information for patients who seek to learn more about services. I asked the receptionist if she could at least provide an estimate and she said the starting price is $500 for the *entire face*. When I asked how much it would be for small localized areas, she said "I don't know, but it would be less than $500 since its not the entire face" A boldfaced lie. I was charged $500 (the cost for a full face) for treatment on about 1/6 of my face. MI Skin Derm Center basically relies on a model that hides important cost information, so they can surprise you with the total at the end of service. The medical assistant who did my v beam literally did the absolute LEAST amount of therapy on my face and missed a few problem spots. She was also extremely rough with my sensitive skin and rubbed it RAW with alcohol wipes before proceeding with the service. I came out of the vbeam with an inflamed pimple that I did not have coming in and it ended up scarring my face. How is that even possible??? Please don't go here. It was a terrible experience. I was also told to come in early and then ended up waiting 30 minutes to be seen. Just do your research because there are many better alternatives- places like Alexandria Associates in Dermatology in Arlington VA provide price transparency on their website with specific prices listed for the specific treatment being received.
The 4 star review is a bit misleading due to the fact Dr. Daniel Yanes is a five star physician. He is the perfect trifecta of knowledge (Harvard trained), kindness, and skill. Additionally, the support staff (front desk and medical assistants) were very welcoming and customer-oriented. Areas I feel could be improved are: 1. Eliminate making a photocopy of driver licenses; this is a bit intrusive and unnecessary. I've never had that experience when going to a clinic for purely cosmetic reasons. I can understand asking to see an ID to ensure it matches the patient who made the appointment and the credit card they are utilizing. 2. I was diagnosed with a clinical problem, which was surprising given that I had seen my dermatologist a week earlier. I asked if the medication could be called into my local pharmacy, but Dr. Yanes stated it had to come from a 'compounding' pharmacy. I had never heard of a compounding pharmacy, and he explained it was a specialty pharmacy that combined multiple medications into a single product and mailed that medication directly to my home. I would be paying approximately $60 for one medication, as opposed to hundreds of dollars for three separate medications. He stated the pharmacy would be texting me after my appointment with the details on how to order. Literally, within an hour of my leaving, I received the text. I went through the order process as far as the last page when I was asked to accept the privacy terms and conditions of "Strive Pharmacy". I hesitated and did a quick Google search to find the pharmacy was located in Leesburg, Virginia and had horrendously bad recent reviews. It appears in November 2024, the compounding pharmacy was acquired by Strive (based in Arizona). Prior to that corporate acquisition, the reviews were stellar. I'm not certain if Dr. Yanes is aware of what is occurring with the pharmacy, but I hope both he and Dr. Isaac find a way to send prescriptions for non-compounded medications to pharmacies that patients trust and with whom their personal information will be safe. I personally opted to forgo ordering the medication that had been prescribed.
I have been receiving microneedling treatments from Laura for a few months now and I could not recommend her enough. She is caring, honest about the results you can expect, and always makes me feel comfortable. I have seen a major improvement in my stretch marks and I am so grateful for my noticeable results! Thank you Laura and MI Skin!
